KSDK-The Missouri Attorney General's office has filed involuntary manslaughter charges against Lincoln County Deputy Nicholas E. Forler.

Prosecutors say Forler was negligent when he fired shots into a truck, hitting and killing 22-year old Tyler Teasley and 23-year-old Michael Douglas Brown Jr.

There were a total of 6 people in the truck at the time. Teasley was driving on Highway 47, and police said that he was speeding and that the deputy tried to pull him over. Court records show that Teasley had previous legal action taken against him for speeding and hazardous driving.

After the shooting, police said that the Forler had pulled over the truck and was approaching it. At that point, witnesses in the truck said that after turning off the engine and lights, the truck rolled backwards, and the deputy opened fire. The truck hit the bumper of a police cruiser. Police said Forler, who, feared for his life, fired shots into the truck, killing the two men.

Lincoln County police and the Missouri Highway Patrol say Forler fired two shots.

After the shooting, police said that Forler received several death threats, and family members of Teasely and Brown both called for action to be taken against Forler.

Forler was suspended with pay.

The Attorney General's Office was appointed as special prosecutor to after the Lincoln County prosecuting attorney recused himself.

In a statement, Attorney General Jay Nixon said, "My office conducted an exhaustive review of the evidence before determining whether to bring charges, and what charges to file. A judge and jury in Lincoln County will now see and hear the evidence and be the next to speak on this matter."

Wazzat?

So the truck rolled backwards towards him and he decided that killing the driver would somehow solve the problem?

"After the shooting, police said that the Forler had pulled over the truck and was approaching it. "

After the shooting, the truck was pulled over?????

As for shooting when the truck was rolling back, I'm assuming the LEO stated that he thought the driver was trying to run him over. Apparently the investigation found fault in that. It will be up to the jury to decide.

22 and 23 are TEENS?

Is the Brady bunch redefining childhood to further pad the death of babies by firearms?

It should be at least 1 count of murder in the 2nd degree and here is why.

Lets assume the driver intentionally tried to run the cop over, fine, shoot the driver. However, only one person is the driver, and two died.

If you shoot an attacker and kill someone else, what do you get? That is what this cop should get. Fry him.

thats why these things go to court. Hard to determine from just reading what was happening. Sure are a lot of cops shooting folks these days though.
Somekid, if a cop shoots someone in the course of the perp committing a felony, the cop is not usually charged, nor should he be charged.

BS!!!!!!

ANYONE else, and I mean ANYONE would be up on murder charges. Cops just starts randomly firing into a vehicle that isn't even running. Another shoots a guy on the ground doing exactly what he was told. A crackhead breaks into your house though and you shoot him you better have a good lawyer handy.

Involuntary manslaughter? If I was a family member of one of those guys I would be insulted, hell I'm not a family member and I am insulted.

i was wondering how a 22 and 23 year old are teens? or even close to being a teen?

Allright, I don't know why I put teens in the title, for some reason I thought they were high-schoolers. This story has been big in St Louis for months. Apparently, the two teens (I mean men) were know trouble makers. Could it be that the cop had a grudge?

Here's Fox's version of the story:

A man sworn to uphold the law goes jail, charged with gunning down two young men near Troy, Missouri. The Missouri attorney general has filed two counts of involuntary manslaughter against Lincoln County sheriff's deputy Nicholas Forler. The court papers just filed at the courthouse accuse Deputy Forler of recklessly firing his service weapon at the tinted driver's side back window of a pickup truck he'd stopped for speeding, then firing a second time into the darkened rear window. Killed was 22-year-old driver Tyler Teasley and 23-year-old rear passenger Michael Brown on October 23rd (pictured). Forler's attorney says his actions will be justified because the two victims have histories of fleeing police and leading them on pursuits in the past, and that was a contributing factor to the deputy opening fire. If convicted, he could get 7 years in prison on each count.

This is un-freakin-believable. This gives a cop the right to shoot you in the head?

There are not more cop shootings these days, people just actively post those stories on this site.

If the truck was not running, it seems strange that the officer would open fire. However, there may be a few more details not mentioned. Based on those few facts presented, it doesn't look too good for the officer. Hard to say though.

Does seem very odd he would shoot when the motor was shut off. It's a lot easier to want to support the officer if the truck was DRIVEN backwards towards him, but rolling with the engine off seems way out of wack.

Hopefully we'll hear more as the trial starts.

Mannlicher, re-read my post. I gave the cop the benefit of the doubt on one death, but only one person drives the vehicle. Whether or not the other guy was happy to flee, and actively encouraging it is moot, he was NOT the one who may have directed the vehicle at the cop. Just because his friend was a moron does not provide a cop justification in shooting him.

Another scenario for you, that might clear this up.

You and your friend are out and about, and for some insane reason, this good friend of yours decides to pull a knife and charge a cop. Cop sprays your friend, killing him, but a few miss and kill you. Did you deserve to die? Should the cop walk?

Interesting.

I wonder if the truck hit the cruiser after the deputy fired and killed the driver.

It is possible that when the driver stopped and turned off the lights and engine, that the brake wasn't engaged. The deputy shoots and kills the driver, leaving the truck to keep rolling...

Just speculation.

We've had a few "Cops Gone Wild" incidents lately in St Louis. One was a beatdown after a high speed chase (broadcast on live TV).

omg

im P.O.ED because Michael Douglas Brown Jr was my cousin and it makes me mad that Nic forler got away with murder:fire::banghead:.If u want to know allite bit more about the murder email me at [email protected]

Forler was suspended with pay.

LOL, kill two people that didn't deserve to die and you get a payed vacation.

"Forler's attorney says his actions will be justified because the two victims have histories of fleeing police and leading them on pursuits in the past, and that was a contributing factor to the deputy opening fire."

I can't say they deserved to die, but I can't say they deserved to be free either.

The cop made a mistake, but it sounds like the world is a better place now.

Hi MDG1976

Putting the victim on trial is a common tactic with defense lawyers. Of the incident I would prefer not to comment until after the facts are presented at trial. While I fully believe the trust given the perps should put them on a higher level of vigilance that does not negate the presumption of innocence.

No, you didn't deserve to die but your friend is 100 percent to blame for the incident.

Let's say your friend lived, you didn't. Who should be put up on charges, the cops who shot you or the dirtbag whose actions started this whole mess in the first place?

Your cousin should have had better friends. Lay down with dogs and you end up with fleas.

Dont forget, ya get within 10 feet of Johny with a car and it is AWDW. Seems as if the wussification of America soaks right downt to the brownshirts as well.

There is always more to these stories.

However if its true that the truck was off and it was just rolling back you really have to wonder about that cops judgment.

A drunk driver could do the same thing due to being drunk and forgetting to put his foot on the brake.

NOT something to start shooting over, an extreem over reaction to say the least.
