just bought a charles daley 1911 .45 . I am interested in hearing from any one who has one (or used to ) Are they good guns ? Mine fuctions well but doesnt chamber the last round (both factory mags ) should I buy a better mag ? what kind . thanks in advance Spence

I don't have one, but Charles Daly went out of business a few years ago. I suspect the gun has been used and all you may need to do is replace the springs in the mags to get it to work.

Charles Daly 1911's were made by Armscor, the same folks that make the RIA (Rock Island Armory) 1911's. RIA guns have a good reputation as low cost value guns. The also have a very good customer service reputation. They may be willing to help with problems with a Charles Daly 1911.

The best bets in replacement mags are typically from CheckMate, McCormick, Tripp or Wilson. I usually need to experiment to find which ones work with my 1911. I never buy a bunch of mags, even highly rated ones, until I've verified my gun likes them. I buy one example, test it out, if it works, I buy more.

I buy most of my mags from

Brownell's http://www.brownells.com/magazines/handgun-magazines/magazines/index.htm?avs|Make_3=1911

Top Gun Supply http://www.topgunsupply.com/1911-magazines/

or direct from Wilson http://shopwilsoncombat.com/45-ACP/departments/363/

I have owned two, currently own one.

The first was sold because it fed nothing but FMJ. Granted, it did that with regularity and the 1911 was designed to shoot FMJ, but I wanted something that wouldn't choke on a good hollowpoint.

The second is about 10-12 years old, has got a really stupid number of tens of thousands of rounds through it. Not only does it feed JHP reliably, it will feed empty cases from the magazine. A little frustrating for instructors who are trying to induce a malfunction requiring more than a simple "tap/rack/assess" drill.

Both were decently made, both were accurate out to 25 yards (I seldom shoot a 1911 past that anymore) and both were clones. that is, they were not made with some proprietary variation.

They are not a top level manufacturer. But I was satisfied in general with the first and thrilled with the second I bought.

CD imported decent "shooter" guns from the Philippines. They're like pickup trucks.

I'd either replace those mag springs, or just toss them and replace them with some good Chip McCormick magazines.

I have a 4 inch Charels Daley that is super accurate and reliable, so much so I have replaced some parts with Colt parts and installed an Ed Brown bobcut MSH. Great pistol. I have owned 3 different Armscor made 1911s, and all heve been reliable and accurate!
FYI even though CD is now defunct, RIA still will do lifetime warranty work as if it was theirs. Stand up Company!

Thanks you all for your helpfull input . I bought a kimber mag for 18 bucks , the gun runs fine now . I'm a happy camper!

Armscor warranty should cover it if anyhting else goes wrong.

I'd get a few Metalform or Wilson mags and shoot the snot out of it, myself.
