To keep it gun related....any real good places to shoot around Charlotte? Any THR'ers from that area?

Wife and I are looking at relocating to Charlotte. I'd be working at the Airport and hoping to live less then 30mins from it.
Looking for any, and all information you can possibly throw at me. Interested in any email groups or BBS sites devoted to life around Charlotte.

I live NE of Charlotte in the Concord area. There is a shooting range near the airport, just towards Gastonia: Shooters Express. Indoor only. They offer yearly memberships, and can provide some good deals on firearms.

Rumor has it the NRA is looking at building a shooting range in Concord (please, please, please...). I have also heard there is an outdoor range in the Albermarle area.

Not too much help on the BBS for the Charlotte area.

An advance welcome?

Several gun shops have indoor ranges; Shooter's Express (one or two exits south of the airport off I-85) is probably the largest and the best.

Here's the official Charlotte-Mecklenburg (County) website:

http://www.charmeck.nc.us/

And here's a guide to the social scene, etc:

http://www.digitalcity.com/charlotte/

The only daily (liberal) fishwrap is the Charlotte Observer, which shares a website with other media outlets here:

http://www.charlotte.com/mld/charlotte/

And I'm sure those sites will link to more information...

Use to live in Gastonia. Had a membership at Shooter's Express. Their range is split in two, one for rifles, one for handguns, IIRC. You can shoot centerfire rifles up to and including .375HH. I've shot my FA .454C and Desert Eagle .50AE in the handgun range without any problems. They also rent out a full auto HK MP5 and Uzi. You have to use their ammo though.

IIRC, there is also an outdoor archery range. Can't recall the distance though.

One of the bigger shops in Charlotte is Hyatt's in the NW section of the city. There is a full auto dealership in the SW area but never had the opportunity to go in there. IIRC, Interordnance is also located nearby just outside of Charlotte. Ther is also Carolina Sporting Arms/Sportsman (a couple locations), Sportsman's Spot (use to live across the street from it) in Gastonia, and Carolina Hunter.

One of the bigger shows is the one held at the Metrolina Expo north of Charlotte. Note, however, you do need to buy additional forms to purchase firearms over the counter. These are obtained from the local police who do a background check on you when you request them, IIRC. It was said, and is what I did, that you would do yourself a favor by geting 4 or 5 forms at a time.

Let's hear it for the Charlotte/Gastonia gang!!!

Shooters is Ok...a little high price on there guns and ammo.....but any port in a storm.

Hyatt Guns in charlotte is again a little high priced but has a wide selection.

The Sport's man spot....a real down to earth guy that runs the place. He worked on a 1911A1 a few years back and did a great job in tuning it up for me......about a month before it was stolen out of by apartment:cuss: :fire: :cuss: :fire: :cuss: .......but never the less he's a great guy.

all of us Charlotte/Gastonia boys will have to get together and have a The HighRoad get together!!!

I hope this helps.

When you get in to town drop by the Wal-Mart Sporting Goods department in Gastonia and I'll hook you up with a welcome 10% employee discount:D :D :D

If you want to meet shooters!

Check out Foothills shooters in Wilksboro. They get together the first Saturday of evey month. IDPA qualifying and 3 gun matches. All skill levels and a great group of people from the Piedmont. Located about an hour and a 1/4 North of Charlotte, you will not regret the experience! http://www.foothillsidpa.com/ :D

--Shooter's Express--discussed

--D&L in Monroe east of Charlotte--indoor 75 foot range. Caters to LE, reloaders, and hunters

--Firepower--East side of Charlotte. 50 foot indoor range. Caters to women. Good selection of handguns and rifles.

--Hyatt gun Shop--near CLT airport. More like a gun shopping center. Pricey but unbelievable selection.

--Charlotte Rifle and Pistol Club www.cr-pc.org 10 lane 75 foot indoor range in east charlotte. The outdoor range in Waxhaw, south of charlotte, has 40+ HP rifle pad on a 300 yard range, 30+ pistol range, plinking range, trap, skeet, and sporting clays. Rifle and pistol side is by membership only. Trap, skeet, and clays is open to the public.

As Waitone said, Firepower Inc. in Matthews is pretty good, and has a good selection of rental guns. Just can't shoot rifles except for .22s though. Very friendly and nice selection there also.

Is anyone here a member of the Charlotte Rifle and Pistol Club?

Just wondering about the good and bad...

There is also an outdoor facility in Salisbury N.C., I am thinking of becoming a member there as I work in Salisbury. Anyone have any experiences there?
