Has anyone heard of the new Charter Arms’ rimless revolver. I currently carry a Taurus Model 905, a 9mm snubbie, as a back-up for my Beretta M9. I like carrying a snubbie for a pack-up (especially because it is the same caliber), but I can't stand moon clips.

This new charter is supposed to eject rimless cartriges, specifically 40, 9, and 45.

Anyways, I was wondering:

Is it a copy of the S&W 547 or a new design?

And has it come out already or is it on the way?

The design seemrs to be more like the Ruger, and that may be the reason (patent infringement issues) that delayed its introduction. The Charter Arms web site now says it will be available early 2010.

Well, I can see the advantage if your 9 quit and you went to the back up. You could reload from the magazine. You could do that with a standard moon clipped revolver, once. At least I could with my old 1917, shoot it without moon clips. Took a pencil to unload it, though.

Some might like the 9x19 ballistics, but want it in a revolver. Remember, I think it was called, the 9mm Federal? It was a rimmed 9x19, but was not designed to fire in moon clipped guns like the .45 Auto Rim, was a failed exercise from the get go. I think Charter made that gun, too. It lasted about as long as the .41AE.

I do see your reasoning, but I'm not REAL sure I'd trust the Charter without quite a bit of shooting to prove itself. Sounds like it might be a bit of a complicated extractor system. I can see why you'd be interested, though. :D

have they acctualy decided to release these yet or are we still on hold

last i checked with charter they were haveing patten issues

so untill i see one on the shelf i cant believe its in production this model has been on and off the back burner so much im starting to doubt they will ever finaly release it kind of like taurus with there raging .223 revolver

I've been itching to try one since the day I heard about it. Last I knew they said they needed to meet the orders they already had. I'm glad to hear that someone has seen they are at least still looking to make it.

MCgunner,

That was the Charter Arms Pit Bull made between 1989 and 1991. As with many things, I wanted one, but never did buy it.

One thing I do, if I dont want to mess with the moon clips is load .38 SW, not .38 Special, cases with a lead 125gr bullet at about 800 fps for practice. No need for moon clips with those.................They eject just like any rimed revolcer round.

WOW, that's interesting. I need to file that in my memory in case I ever stumble on a 9mm revolver I want. LOL Won't help the OP with his reasoning, but it's good to know.
