Just saw these in the lastest issue of G&A. Limited info, but looks like a 5 shot snubby that shoots and extracts rimless auto rounds without the use of moonclips. Will be available in 9mm (which will also fire 380's), 40S&W and 45ACP. And, all models will be cleared for +P rounds. I have heard that Charter guns can be spotty, but these look pretty interesting to me! Nothing on Charter's website yet.

I think the reliability issue is on everyone's mind about this. MKS owns them now, and they've actually made a solid name out of the bargin bin Hi-point guns as decent, if not hideous and mis balanced, but reliable pistols. I wish that'd rub off on charter. Smith has a 20something oz Nframe scandium .45 ACP 6shooter in the Nightguard line. But I really think that charter has the right idea for a 5shot .45 snubby. .44 special ammo AND ccw-ready platforms so damn rare and expensive. Unless you reload, there's just no way your average joe is going to afford to do so. .45 acp is 32 bucks per 100 at your local wally world. That is doable. Also, plenty of .45 ACP SD loadings and even short barrel loadings available for reasonable prices. .40 s&w is even cheaper. PDs and officers might be interested in BUG in the same caliber as their primary sidearm. Could mean the birth of the .40 autorim if it catches on.

Man, I really do hope that these turn out to be good quality. A smallish snubbie in .45 ACP would be the cat's pajamas IMHO.

Mal,
Interesting comment about MKS and Charter. Do you know when this occured? I hope the quality at Charter does improve as they have a couple of models that I would like.

I'm just hoping that smith or ruger pick up on .45 acp snubby 5shot idea.

I, too, like the idea of a 5 shot snub. I have the 325 Night Guard, which while awesome, is hardly ideal for concealed carry. If Smith can do a 5 shot 44 on the L frame, you'd think they could squeeze in 5 45ACPs as well, considering the mild pressure the cartridge generates. Still, if Charter can bring these to market between around the $350 mark, I'll be awfull tempted.

I've always been interested in semi auto pistol caliber's in revolver form (S&W 1917) and think it would be great to see more guns made in this caliber. Does anyone know who made that revolver that could adapt to shoot alot of .30 caliber cartridges (9mm,38,357 and more) but cannot remember who the manufacturer was.

I believe this was the Rogers & Philips (or was that Philips & Rogers?) Medusa. I wanted one, but never got around to buying one. Supposedly, you could use just about any cartridge in the .38 range (.38 special, Colt, S&W, .357 magnum, 9x19, .380...)

I'm definitely intrigued by the 45 version.

I've heard good things about the new Charters since the company came under new ownership earlier this decade.

It was Taurus about 5 or 6 years ago. I think they called it the "Triad"

I'd look seriously at the .40 and .45 versions. I own one of the latest versions of the Pug, and I've never run into a single reliability issue. It's a little fugly, but it's as accurate as any other snubby I've shot, and it goes bang every time.
