The new Charter Arms Pitbulls in 45ACP are now being shipped to dealers. I should have mine in 2 wks or less.

I like Charter Arms revolvers. I have a couple. I like 45s. I have never shot a .45acp revolver. How is felt recoil from a small 20 oz revolver, with 45acp? I had a Ruger LCR in .357 and it was brutal.

Dang, it's not on their website,,,

Dang, it's not on their website,,,
I would have liked to read a bit about it.

I like their guns,,,
But their website is rarely up to date.

Dang it! And here I thought I'd bought every gun I wanted....

Have the Charter .40 Pitbull and .44Sp Bulldog already, been sort of looking for the 9 Pitbull and now I'll be looking for the .45 too.

Nice. I am planning on buying a .44 special Bulldog in the next couple weeks, but I would shoot a .45 acp a lot more.

I rolling on the floor, laughing my rear end off,,,

I'm not laughing at you rhinoh,,,
It just reminded me of how many times I've said that.

Three weeks ago I said exactly the same thing,,,
I just (an hour ago) put together a wish list.

The total (this time) came to $1,205.56.

It's never enough my friend,,,
Because there is one thing almost all of us craves,,,

More. ;)

Rhinoh, how does your Pitbull handle the loading and unloading of the rimless .40 cartridge?

Hmmmm,

I was contemplating a 44 Spl, but I already have a convertible Ruger Blackhawk in 45Colt/45ACP, so a nice little DA in 45 ACP seems more attractive to me.

I am eager to hear a review!

If the 9mm rollout is any indication of how their 45 production will go - the revolvers will be scarce and people who REALLY REALLY want one will pay a premium because of their scarcity.

It has been trouble free, just a little different to load. One has to push the cartridges in rather than just drop them in due to the little spring loaded extractor thingies (technical term).

Very interesting, I didn't know this was even coming out. Is it built on the Bulldog frame? If so I wonder what durability will be like. I've always heard rumor of Bulldogs shooting loose with .44 Special +P loads. The .45 ACP naturally runs nearly 50% higher in terms of pressure and with the bigger diameter will stress the design even more in terms of hoop stress and case head thrust.

I still may have to try one. I always wanted a Bulldog but didn't want to start reloading the otherwise expensive .44 Special. I wish they'd do one in .45 Colt though if it has the cylinder length to handle it. Pressure is much more inline with that of the original design.

I have an original Bulldog in 44 special and can't imagine recoil with the ACP would be much different. 250 grains at 750 versus 200 at 825 or even 230 at 800 sounds about even. 3" barrels in revolvers generally won't give you published figures. My 44s are chrono'd and I don't shoot many of them. For plinking I load down to about 650 fps.

Here is my review of the 9mm PITBULL:

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=767564

I know 9mm isn't 40 S&W but my experience unloading the 9mm is that extraction starts to get sticky after three cylinders, but I was able to get the rounds out on the fifth cylinder by tapping on the ejection rod a little (tapped it with a plastic gun case).

The ejector rod won't eject Steel cased ammo. I had to tap each case out individually with a wooden dowel.

If you handload you simply MUST own some .44 Spl. revolvers. It truly is one of the finest cartridges we have come up with. Plenty of power, easy to shoot and makes big holes. Plus it leaves more steel around the chambers than a .45 chamber does. But a Bulldog Pug in .45 ACP is a pretty cool idea also. (if you don't try to make a .45 ++P Magnum out of it - if you do it probably won't blow but it will be shot loose pretty rapidly)

It's been almost a month and I'm still waiting for it. I called the GS last week and they just said they would call me when it arrives . WHO KNOWS WHEN THAT WILL BE ? I was so disheartened I went to a different GS and bought a Ruger LCR in 38/357 . That cheered me up enough so I'll be able to wait a while longer.

I talked directly to Nick Ecker, and he told me the 45 Pitbull has not gone into production. He did say that they are working on bringing that revolver to market, but it wont be soon.

And so... the .45 ACP pitbull remains vaporware... a shame! :(

I do so wish for one, as .44 special ammunition costs an arm and a leg 'round these parts, and no, I do not reload because I can't reload.
