So, I can't shoot cast bullets at my indoor range and I'm looking for an alternative. I saw someone mention Delta Presicion but it looks like their .38 bullets are cast although they might be a good plan for .45. I'm going to try the plated bullets from Ranier and Berrys even though I have reservations about the lack of a cannelure and crimping through the plating.

Is there an alternative? Anybody making cheap, 158gr. jacketed bullets in .38?

I've used the Rainier plated .357" bullets before and like them. Just put a heavier than normal crimp after seating the bullet since as you say there's just a smooth surface for the case mouth to hold on to. I've gone through a couple hundred of these and the bullets haven't come loose even when shooting .357 magnum.

I just ordered 1000 38-158 SWC bullets from X-treme. Nice lady I just talked to. They are higher than Berry's, but I want to try them since they have a cannelure. :)

These Remingtons from Midway were a good deal, but they have gone up a lot and have been out of stock for a while.

NOO, NOO, NOO! Don't order from X-Treme bullets. :D

The nice lady called me this morning to say they had sufficient bullets for the order I wanted to make a couple of weeks ago.

Also said that as soon as the current in house supply of lead needs to be replenished the price will go up another few dollars for "lead surcharge".

I ended ordering 2000 .38 cal 158 gr. Hope the price curve goes down in a few months when I need to reorder.

You can get 1000 Berrys 38/357 125gr plated hp from this guy for $64 shipped or 1000 Winchester 38/357 125gr jhp $70 shipped.

No relation to me, other than I bought some shotgun hulls from him once.

Everybody is suffering from the same thing. I bought a bunch of bullets right before they started really going up. (the price of scrap copper was going sky high and I knew it would hit bullets soon) But, It's either quit shooting or buy what you want. I have plenty to shoot for a long time, but I wanted to try the Extreme .38's, so I did.(or will when they get here) :)

That is a good deal (these days) from the guy on Ebay.

Walkalong,

When I began reloading I decided I liked the X-treme (West Coast at the time) copper plated bullets and have used them for most of the last 20 to 25 thousand rounds. They shoot good and keep the gun clean.

Yea, I have shot Ex-Treme bullets in .45 and they shoot well. I will probably stick with Berry's for the .45 though. :)
