Greetings,

I need some help. I want to build a VERY cheap AR 223 or 556. Where can I get the cheapest lower, upper A2 or A4, I do not care, parts and adjustable buttstock with buffer?

I am really trying to get the lowest price...Then shoot it to death to see if it will work as long and as good as my RRAs :neener:

Thank you

Greetings,

Here is what I found as of now:

Upper with bolt 399.99
http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduc...urce=froogle&utm_medium=free&utm_campaign=649

stripped lower 59.95
http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=F1SASL&groupid=53

Lower part kit 57.95
http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XRGLPK&groupid=53

Complete buffer tube kit and stock 34.95 (It is commercial specs...will it work with the receiver I put here?)
http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XAR6Stock&groupid=57

Total 552.80 + around 25$ transport +20$ transfer fees = 567$

Any other place where the parts would be cheaper? Right now, I think the best bang for the bucks would be to find a upper+bolt at a better price.

On this note, is it worth building an upper? Seems like there's some money to be saved building a lower, but I haven't found the parts to compete with Midway's 400 or DSA's cheaper lower (sans bcg/charging handle.

Whatever you get, have a gunsmith or somebody with the proper staking fixture torque and stake your gas key screws and castle nut. That will go a long way toward ensuring reliability.

You can buy a DSA complete lower for $200, assembled with the stock attached.

They sell a chrome lined upper for $325. Buy a top of the line LMT bolt carrier assembly for $130 and a charging handle for $20 and you have a decent rifle, with all of the important bases covered (chrome lined barrel, quality bolt carrier assembly, etc.) for $700 or so.

You lose a large chunk of money buying a compete rifle, versus an upper and lower seperately. Anyone who buys a complete rifle is not getting a good deal.

Cheap style

Get youself a brownells catalog for the uppers, bolt assemblies,etc... And then go to Rguns.com for the lower as I have seen them as cheap as $135. Should be able to build an ar for as cheap as $450-$500 dollars that way and still have a decent tool to play with

I would say unless you've built one before and you're dead set on having something now/right now! Just keep looking for a good deal on a complete rifle. I hunted for a few months and got a DPMS AR15 lite for 550$. I just kept checking sites like gun-deals.com and http://www.riverofguns.com. I'm afraid I don't buy into the idea that the only way to get a good deal is to build one yourself. I've seen a bunch of those home built jobs that end up being really loose and rattle worse than a AK. I get great .75 inch groups with cr@p brown bear ammo with my DPMS and its tight as a drum.:)

Greetings,

Any reviews or comments about this kit?

The only reviews I see are the ones on the site... Can't trust them too much...

Thank you

I would steer clear. I have one and it's been difficult at best to get running. I've had to replace the whole mag catch and modify the hammer just to get it functioning. And it still short strokes occasionally, which I'm working on troubleshooting. It may be the cheapest at first, but you'll end up being frustrated and out the cash for replacement parts.

If its to be a cheap POS AR that you intend to shoot to pieces, just buy an offering from ATI, I don't have a current link, but they are IMO bottom of the barrel when it comes to ARs, real junk that should not set you back much more than $500.00 if even that! Think Olympic, only worse.

Here you go:

Spike's tactical stripped lower for 89.99 @ brownells.

Del-ton rifle kit everything you need to complete your lower for 465-485 at Del-ton.

Total 554.99-574.99 depending on configuration, of course most CMMG bargain bin rifles are 599 and found here at CMMG.

a Del-Ton kit or an aforementioned barrel assembly and buying an assembled lower elsewhere would be your best choice.

Del-Ton has a good reputation for what you can get for the price, and you can upgrade a few things to make the gun work for your needs.

CMMG BB..mine was $648 delivered, and I paid the hand select. Great shooting AR with zero issues..

I'm thinking of going the Del-Ton route now, but I'll probably go for the 20'' barrel as I live in NY and can't have a collapse able stock. I think a 16'' barrel would look kinda funny with a full A2 stock.

Greetings,

My friend and I bought the lower at aimsurplus for 58$.
I did not buy yet the Del-ton kit, but my friend did.
He is VERY satisfied of it.

Thank you
