i was wondering what you guys think about getting a cheap red dot sight for my new ar15? a good one will be enough to get me another gun already so i'm sticking to a cheap one. are they worth it? the ranges will be between 50-100 yards for a .223 caliber.

Go for it !!! I have one (BSA Holo type with choice of dot sizes) that I
plan as a back up with the carry handle removed. This is for a new Bushy
16" HB Carbine with adj. stock.:)

I second the BSA holo sight. I got one on my keltec su and love it. $30 on sale at midway-best sight I've bought. It stays on target even when your eyes move around and leaves a clear easy to see field. It would need to be on a picatinny or weaver rail-so flat top.

Depends on what you expect out of it. If you're just using it on a plinking rifle, it should be fine. If you want durability, battery life and accurate and repeatable adjustment, expect to pay for it.

I have two AR's, on the one I just have the BUIS, and on the other I have an Eotech, Both are very accurate and I wouldn't dream of buying a fakeog or other cheapo sight set up, you only get what you pay for.

I have a Pentax RD10 on my Bushmaster M4, it seems to be a decent compromise between the really cheap stuff and the Aimpoints, Eotechs, etc. I think it was about $90 at the gun shop but if you google it they start at around $70 online. I've been happy with mine, it holds a zero, doesn't fog, and the glass is nice and clear.

my dad has a burris speed dot i think it is it is mounted on his cx4 storm carbine and it is really nice for the money. i woul dbuy one but i have no need at the time as i already have a red dot for my ar, but if i needed one especially for a range use gun then i would probally go that route.
