Smith and wesson sd 9 get okay reviews. You could also go ultra cheap and get the s&w sigma but the trigger pull is like 200 pounds on it. I had someone polish my action up on the inside of the.sigma 40 i had. It dropped the pull down to 7 pounds. Sigma had about 1000 rounds through it before it had an issue. Then i started getting failures to feed. I switched out the mag springs with wolf extra powered ones and the problem went away. I wantes a springfield xd and so dumped the sigma and took the cash i got and applied it plus a little bit out of my bank and got me the xd 40.

I would put a vote in for a cz 75b. I got one on sale for $325. It runs well and shoots to point of aim with the 115 gr rounds.

Take a look at some of the places where you can order a gun online and have it delivered to your shop.

You can often times find police-trade in Berettas or the older Smith & Wesson autoloaders for less than a Glock.

That, or keep an eye open at your local shops and want ads for used Glocks. You can sometimes find them on the secondary market for a very reasonable price.

Ruger P95. $300 new and I've never seen a more reliable pistol. It might not be as accurate, but I'd trust a P95 to go bang everytime MORE than I'd trust a Glock.

If the gun is used I prefer the glock since every factory part perhaps but the frame and maybe the slide are available on the net. Every club has a glock armorer and there are plenty of web based do it yourself videos.

Used Glock = $350-$400, pretty cheap for one of the most reliable auto pistols ever made, and no I'm not a fan boy, I still like the 1911 more.

used, or police trade in glocks are a pretty good buy. I haven't got one yet, but my understanding is if you have an issue, you just send it back to glock, and it comes back good as new.

I bought my Bersa Thunder 9 Pro 9mm for $360 locally. The slide is all nickel, and the frame is aluminum. I've shot over 800 rounds and it has yet to jam in any size, shape or form. I reccomend it highly.

SR9c (NOT the regular SR9 - different trigger systems) is a nice choice if you like the following.

Glock-like trigger. Glock-like capacity (10 and 17 round mag). Light weight and slim. Fully adjustable three dot sights. Backstrap flips over for a flat or arched contour. Thumb safety, if you don't like it ignore it. LCI, if you don't like it, file off the bottom tip and it won't activate. I filed mine down a bit so the LCI still pops up but doesn't stand at attention like a Marine dreaming about Angelina Jolie.

Mine is easy to shoot and dull - not a single hiccup in 300-400 rounds.

One downside, magazine safety. But that is take care of in 3 minutes when you first get. Disassemble the firing pin channel, remove it, and clean the factory goop out of the FP channel and FP while you're at it.

Kel-Tec PF9 @$250.00 new. Cheap, Very Light, and I would think very reliable (100% lifetime factory warranty). I have pocket carried a Kel-Tec P32 every day for years and have never had a single issue with it from day one during practice with it. Lighter and flatter than any Glock (or any mass produced 9mm for that matter) just as the p32 is in the .32acp caliber.

Ruger SR9, SR9c, and LC9 are all very good 9mm pistols at good prices. Plus Ruger stands behind their guns. My SR9 full sized pistol is a very nice gun to shoot, accurate, light recoil, and so far infallible. All for a bit less than $400. My SR40c which is the .40 version of the SR9c is much the same, a great gun for the money. The LC9 is a good concealable 9mm also for a decent price. All the above made right here in the USA too.

The CZ is nicer, but my shooting buddy bought a used P95 real cheap and it's very reliable.

It's ugly, cheap (less than $150) and does not have a good trigger, but it's reliable.

Ruger P95. Best price/performance ration of the bunch.
S&W Sigma. Significantly cheaper, significantly worse trigger but if you send it into S&W after complaining it will comeback in the same ball park as the Ruger.
Hi-Point C9. Seriously cheap, seriously ugly but also seriously reliable.

You make your choice and place your bets. I prefer the Ruger based on the P97 I had.

Another vote for a police trade in glock. They are usually shot very little, but carried a lot, so they do show wear. However, their internals are usually in good shape. If the internals need replacing, glock parts are easy to get, and easy to replace yourself.

for a good price and reliable gun an LC9, i can attest to its reliability through 1000 rounds. my brother has a $300 p95 thats been dead nuts reliable also.

maybee a keltec for under $300, ive heard they run well.
