Has anyone used the cheap shot pure lead sabot on deer? Good results and or blood trails? What about the XTP's? I have been shooting both out of my CVA wolf and have really good accuracy with both. Just looking for feedback on blood trails and expansion of both.

I never used the cheap shot bullet/sabot combo except for adjusting sights at the range.
I've had mixed results with Hornady XTPs. I used the .45 250 gr. HP-XTPs in a sabot until I pushed the velocity too high and the bullet 'blew up' on a small deer's shoulder. I had to kill the deer with a lucky shot from my ROA with a round ball to the lungs.
If using the .45 bullet, I recommend going to the 300 gr. XTP. The .429 240 gr. (.44) bullet with a green sabot is made for higher velocities (over 2000 fps).

Thanks for the feedback. I forgot to add I have a lot of swc 240 gr hardcast and a boat load of 44 sabots. These shoot a little bigger group but still acceptable for the shorter ranges I will be hunting at this year (75 yards max). Would anyone have any reservations using the hardcast swc? I generally shoot 100 gr 777 but with the hardcast would I be better served bumping it up to 150 for maximum penetration and blood trail?

Yes I've killed several with cheap shots . All died on the spot. It's pure lead like the buffalo hunters used.

A hardcast bullet won't need to be pushed faster for penetration, though maybe it would help with expansion depending on just how hard it is.

The hardcast is 18 BNH so its pretty hard. I wouldn't think I would get any expansion at all. Just thinking the flat meplat would do enough damage without expansion.

Wide meplats are well known for creating an ice wound channel. Handgun hog hunters use nothing but hardcast bullets.
