I had two purchases with cheaper than dirt. One somewhat statisfying and on a great dissapointment.

The first was a AR stripped lower. Everything was ok with the exception of sending me a tracking number from the wrong shipping company.

The second was terrible.
Order placed on a Friday at 6 am. Confirmation received. Item in stock.

FFL sent in the morning. I call to verify this and was also told that I did not need to send a second FFL because I used the same dealer from the previous weeks purchase. That's funy because the last operator told me a new one was needed each time.

My card is charged for the shotgun on Friday and clears.

No action on Sat, Sun, Mon or Tues. I call tuesday afternoon and they send it, apparrently after I complained, to the warehouse.

Wednesday morning, item out of stock. I call. cheaper than dirt and they tell me the shotgun is not in stock and I will get a refund. Their excuse was that 8 different companies order from the warehouses that they us and it is filled on first come first serve basis.

4 days later I recieve my money back in my account. Needless to say
...I was pissed. Don't take my money and then tell me you sold the item.

No emails were returned when I.complained, so oh well.

CTD is local to me. They aren't my first choice for guns and ammo, the gun show is, but I've bought several guns, and a lot of other stuff from them with out a problem.

I ordered some 32acp ammo, two pairs of shooting glasses and two glock mags over the weekend. About $130 worth of stuff. Got to the checkout and everything is coming from a different warehouse so the pair of glasses have $12 shipping, the glock mags have $12 shipping and so does the ammo.
That's just dumb. I cancelled all but the ammo as no gun shows for a couple of weeks. I felt like canceling everything.
Btw I've had good service from center fire systems.

Forewarned, I've had that same experience. Not my problem that they don't have everything under one roof... the buyer should only have to pay a single shipping fee.

You are correct that everything under one roof would be a simplier solution. Now, you have to give them credit that they do give you all of the informaiton necessary to select your order to optimize your shipping. Here, "A" location is local and you can pick up with no shipping.

Their guns and gear prices are pretty good but their shipping prices are WAAAAAAAAY out of line. $18 to ship two 50rd boxes of pistol ammo UPS ground within the same state? Hell no.

I live south of Austin so theres very little chance of me going to DFW just to purchase a firearm, and since CTD charges TX residents BOTH high shipping and sales tax, it completely obliterates any "deals" they might offer. They have long been criticized for their extremely unreasonable shipping charges but refuse to do anything about it. Thats enough for me to never want to do business with them at all.

Years ago I bought some military junk from them here and there but the shipping was bad then also. These days they are anything but cheaper than dirt IMHO. No purchases in 12 years and they still send me a flyer full of overpriced stuff. They must not look at the internet themselves or they would be more savvy about things. Oh I never saw any firearms that were worth the price for my taste.

CTD is Drop Shipping Firearms from RSR's Warehouse in Grand Prarie, TX.
They have no control over the inventory and are competing with Dealers all over the US.

That being said, the prices I've seen aren't too bad.

Well their name is a mis-nomer. They are rarely cheaper on most things. I've had average service from them... mediocre company that sells a lot of junk and a few good things, typically overpriced. But I've seen the occassional deal...

For Firearms this is very likely true.

All of their accessories and ammo are usually over priced based on other internet options ( although they are lower than LGS). I have bought from them a couple of times but not very often.

I was wondering about people's experiences with purchasing firearms from them. While they have high shipping on other items the prices + shipping on firearms seems very good.

I have been tempted to buy from them

I try not to buy from them for the reasons previously listed,, multiple warehouses, end up paying multiple shipping fees.. no bargain there.. They USED to be really cheap, not so much anymore.. but EVERY NOW AND THEN.. they hit a good surplus ammo deal.. It is a fun store to shop in when I am in Ft Worth though.. then, no worries about shipping costs..

I've purchased a FNP-9 and a Marlin Model 60 in the last month or so. Both purchases went very smooth and fast. Shipping was only $11.00 to Arizona. Did have to submit the FFL info. each time. Had some excellent deals on the mags for the FNP-9 after the pistols were sold out.

New Yorkaphobia

I'd give them a try but they won't ship to New York State. Everybody else does---Whittakers, J&G, Buds, etc.---but not CTD. I wrote to them a few years back and they said they're "looking into it." Guess they didn't like what they saw. Can't say as I blame them, but they're losing a lot of business.

Insofar as accessories is concerned, their shipping is over the top, not to mention there aren't too many bargains to be had.

I bought a rifle from Cheaper Than Dirt and they were cheaper than my other options; shipping on just the rifle was very reasonable, I received the product quickly and liked being able to use a credit card for no extra fee.

For other things, the multiple warehouses and extra shipping is a factor in whether I order an item, skip it, or just place the entire order elsewhere.

They have no control over the inventory
Do they make a point of telling potential buyers this?? Not that I have seen, but I haven't looked too hard. I'm not alone in remembering the CTD price jacking that went on. Yes, I realize in a free market, no one can supposedly be "ripped off' but even ASKING $70 bucks for a box of .380 ammo is enough to lose my respect

Bought 38 Airweight Crimson Trace from them. Fast shipping and the best price around.

I have ordered four holsters from them on separate orders. All were top quality leather holsters, all cost less then anywere else. Close to half the price, Shipping was like 4 bucks. Got my order in less then a week. I am very happy with CTD and will most likely order from them again.
