Why won't Cheaper Than Dirt ship to New York?

Maryland has that same stupid law which requires that a fired shell casing be submitted with each new handgun purchased. I have a friend who's an FFL in Maryland. He just recently built a firing pit in his backroom floor so that they can produce the shell casings themselves. Before that, they could only order from a limited number of distributors who would provide a fired shell casing with an ordered gun.
I'd be willing to bet a week's wages that if I anonymously submitted a spent casing from one of my registered pistols to a law enforcement agency in New York, that they wouldn't be able to trace it back to me. I actually proposed this in a letter to an "investigative reporter" a few years ago, but apparently they weren't interested in the challenge.

IT's a commie state

Probably cause it's a Commie state run by retards and they don't want to be bothered.

I think you guys are giving NYC too much credit.

I live in CT, and was looking for a folding stock for a bolt action rifle...Cheaper Than Dirt's website wouldn't sell to me, i imagine because of confusion with the No-folding-stocks-on-semiautomatic-rifles state law.

I called them; a lady there said that's their policy. I asked for the manager, he said that too. I can't argue with that; but i can and did take my business elsewhere....and now they're loosing money on me, since they send me all those catalogs every other week that go straight into the recycle bin.

It can also be a pressure tactic / punishment thing.

Consider what Amazon did with California recently over their online sales tax, or Barret rifles over their .50cal ban.

Bingo. There are several manufactures that just won't deal with Cali on the same level. Why even bother when with such a commerce unfriendly state that is just as likely to try and make an example of you as it is to do business with you?

Cheaper Than Dirt seems to be overly sensitive about states restrictions. I tried to order Springfield 10 round magazines for my M1A (perfectly legal in California) and they wouldn't ship. Said that the Cal DOJ (Department Of Justice) indicated to them that it was too easy to build an illegal firearm around these magazines, blah, blah, blah. The Cal DOJ has a history of intimidating any business that deals in firearms. They harass LGS all the time for pickyuny stuff.

Sorry to go OT but it was somewhat relevant.

My wife said she would like to visit New York City. I told her that I wouldn't even go there because so many people there vote anti-freedom.

I think this has a lot to do with commerce law. If you do business in a state, that state, or anyone in that state, can sue you in their courts (not just your local). Yes, dealing with NYS would expose CTD to Bloomberg and on his turf no less.

Both Cheaper Than Dirt and Sportsman's Guide have very similar sales policies when it comes to certain items. They often say they are following the law when in-fact its just their company policy. I have enjoyed tormenting their staff with numerous phone calls, letters and emails proving them wrong:evil::D:neener:.
I nolonger do business with either company.

cheaper than dirt.

I would continue to buy from Bud's and cross cheaper than dirt off my list. Which I did because I never knew how much my shipping charges were going to be. I see they are working on that one.

Agreed. I scratched Chicago off my list too. And Washington, D.C. And San Francisco and Boston, too. In fact, I think I'll just stay home!

I am curious why the NRA has not sued NYC in a similar manner to the Heller suit in DC and the suits that were threatened in Illinois. Saving their pennies for the lawyers I suppose.

They can't, most of those .50 cal bullets are fired into New York directly from Virginia by unscrupulous gun dealers.

You have an AG that has demonstrated filing of lawsuits in federal court over disputes with out of state sellers.

I love bashing New York! It's all the fleabag politicians here deserve. Cut off New York City, let it float out into the ocean, nuke it, and the entire state would change for the better over night.
If we disregard NYC and its boroughs, New York State is one of the poorest in the nation, 4th from the bottom. NYC bleeds money out of the state like a leech.

I just came back from a brief trip through Corning, Elmira, Binghamtom, Liberty, et cetera, and I was shocked to see the boarded-up storefronts and overall state of despair. I heard that 40% of the houses in Buffalo are vacant. 'Tis a shame.
