Several years ago my Remington 700 in .308 was dropped and put aside until today. The range is 125 yards because there's a water feature, big mud hole, at 100 yards.

Wind was from the right at 5-10 mph, gusting to about 15 mph. First three rounds landed high right. Not a bad group for 52 year old military load (IVI 70). Over adjusted and fired two groups, making adjustments between groups.

Broke out my favorite handloads and went to the left target where adjustments were made between groups. Will come back and check zero on a calm day.

The bullseyes are 4". The scope is the Leupold FX 3 six power.

Left target:

Group 1 is just over 1/2 inch.
Group 2 is about 7/8 inch.
Group 3 i botched the last shot.

Easiest/quickest way to sight in a scope. Set the target at your desired range, shoot one shot, lock rifle down/ or hold a solid as possible while holding crosshairs on the point of aim, using the scopes windage and elevation adjustments, adjust to point of impact, shoot once more to confirm then make minor adjustments the same way if needed. My dad taught me this trick when I was in my teens and I'm 40 now. It's never taken me more then 3 shots to sight in any scoped rifle using this method

I always check my rifles before the season, but I have been blessed that my first centerfire rifle, a 700 Classic .30-06 with a Leupold Vari-X lll in 2.5-8, remains dead on year after year.
