Those don't even sound like BB guns, they sound like airsoft toys.

Yep, because people are morons and can't control their kids, we should ban BB guns. Sound like Chicago logic to me.

Actually, if these really are BB guns, which I doubt (though some .177 BB guns do come in fake colorations), there is a federal law prohibiting any laws prohibiting the sale of BB guns (except for prohibiting sales to minors).

And if this is an airsoft gun, I wouldn't be surprised if they could try to claim protection since they are capable of firing paintballs- since paintball guns are protected as well.

I'd bet it is an airsoft gun. Not too many BB guns i've seen have orange tips...and it would be nice to find one for $5-15!

If they're so dangerous, let the Chicago police use them as their standard sidearm.

    I agree Silver Bullet.

I pulled this from another forum and they all gree they are selling cheap airsoft guns. I am willing to bet that this is correct. I used BB guns because they are calling them BB guns in the article.

Either way it is silly for them to do this. I really am tired of reading about how gun crazy Illinois has become.

No spray paint, no foie gras and no air guns...why am I living here?! Oh yeah, I have a decent job and a family I don't want to relocate yet. But someday, someday...

Incidentally, I believe you can own a BB gun here if you get a permit of sorts from the CPD. Don't even think about discharging it, though. I just read that the gun in question was a Daisy PowerLine Model 93.

The FOID card act defines as a firearm any BB gun with a caliber in excess of .18 or muzzle velocity in excess of 700 fps.

It would not surprise me if Chicago banned BB guns.
