Well, I'd grab one, run like the dickens giggling like a little kid if I found one like that. Good rifle for that chambering.

If they have intact crests (most were ground due to the surplus turning up in other neighboring counties in the hands of forces NOT friendly to t he government...)

If the crests are intact (on the barrel shank)
grab them and run, you can sell the for double easy.

The bolt is probably cock on close. Makes extraction easier, but means you will need to apply a bit more force on closing than you may be used to. Personally I think cock on close is pretty cool, but ymmv.

Heck of a price if they are in good condition. I don't own any 8mm Mausers myself, but do have a couple in 7x57. I spent 3x that on an unfired Venezuelan Mauser in 7x57.

If they are in decent shape with decent rifling, I would get at least one of them.
I have two 1893 Spanish mausers, 1 long rifle & 1 carbine, both 7x57, love em !
They also cock on closing, decent accuracy in the carbine(3" @ 100yds) with open military sights and 130grn, 140grn, handloads.
The long rifle is pretty shot out (6"-8" @ 100yds) but still fun to shoot.

If it's in 7x57 that's a great price for a nice rifle. They're '95 cock-on-close actions, but still a good rifle in a good cartridge.

If it's a 7.62 conversion, however, they're generally agreed upon to be unsafe, since they sleeved the chamber with brazed inserts and were never meant for the pressures involved anyway.

There are M1895 Chilean Mausers and there are the 1910 Mausers.

I would avoid the early cock on closing small ring Mausers , but the later, M98 action is a great improvement in shooter safety, even if the metal in both actions is rather primitive.

i love the 7mm south American contract mausers, i bought a pristine Brazilian 1908 last year, its hands down the most beautiful rifle i own.

I know that it's obviously different from the 98 action, but why is everyone making cock-on-closing sound like a bad thing? I really like it on my Spanish Mauser, I prefer it to my Yugo 24/47's action.

Ok, so there are 3??? + iterations I think of Chilian mauser
you have a 93/95 type with 2 lugs, you have later 98 BASED actions like the German 1908, the Czech 1924, the FN 1924, the Steyr 1912 etc.

The 1893 isn't a bad gun, it's actually pretty sweet, BUT it lacks the the safety of a 3rd lug
AND the 1895, still lacks the 3rd lug, BUT has a low wall behind the bolt handle to catch the bolt handle if the locking lugs fail.

So, if you redo the action is a higher pressure caliber, and use an old gun etc...
you can end up with a bolt through the eye, BUT a rifle in good working order, is fine in 7MM
Hell, I have a Turk in 7,62x39....
fun gun to shoot
