China rounds up private firearms
Source: AP

BEIJING -- China reportedly has launched a new crackdown on illegal guns across the country.

The China Daily newspaper reports police nationwide have told the public to turn in their guns including airguns and replica firearms. It said those who fail to comply could get up to two years in prison.

In Beijing, police seized 100 guns last month and detained 98 people. Even though most of the guns were replicas, a police official said such guns can cause "unnecessary nervousness" for the public.

Police in a province in southern China seized nearly 6,700 guns in April and May, nearly all of them replicas.

The crackdown is aimed at enforcing a 1998 law tightening Chinese gun control.

I think guns in the hands of private citizens just causes a bit too much "unnecessary nervousness" for the Chinese government.

The Communist Chinese government doesn't need a law to round up and imprison people, they just need an army & police force willing to follow orders to do so.

They have both. :barf:

that sounds NOTHING like America! No one here has been persecuted or prosecuted for simply being a civillian owning a gun! lol. It's scary how much like our potentially biggest enemy we've become.

Bill Clinton , quotes about Arms:
When we got organized as a country and we wrote a fairly radical Constitution with a radical Bill of Rights, giving a radical amount of individual freedom to Americans ... And so a lot of people say there's too much personal freedom. When personal freedom's being abused, you have to move to limit it. That's what we did in the announcement I made last weekend on the public housing projects, about how we're going to have weapon sweeps and more things like that to try to make people safer in their communities.

Bill Clinton, quotes about Arms:
The purpose of government is to rein in the rights of the people.

Bill Clinton, quotes about Arms:
We can't be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans...

Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, quotes about Arms:
One of the basic conditions for the victory of socialism is the arming of the workers (Communist) and the disarming of the bourgeoisie (the middle class).

George Mason, quotes about Arms:
To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them.

Benito Mussolini, quotes about Arms:
The measures adopted to restore public order are: First of all, the elimination of the so-called subversive elements. [...] They were elements of disorder and subversion. On the morrow of each conflict I gave the categorical order to confiscate the largest possible number of weapons of every sort and kind. This confiscation, which continues with the utmost energy, has given satisfactory results.

Josef Stalin, quotes about Arms:
If the opposition (citizen) disarms, well and good. If it refuses to disarm, we shall disarm it ourselves.

United Nations' World Constitution, quotes about Arms:
The age of nations must end... The governments of the nations have decided to order their separate sovereignties into one government to which they surrender their arms.

Hubert H. Humphrey, quotes about Arms:
Certainly one of the chief guarantees of freedom under any government, no matter how popular and respected, is the right of citizens to keep and bear arms.... The right of citizens to bear arms is just one guarantee against arbitrary government, one more safeguard against the tyranny which now appears remote in America but which historically has proven to be always possible.
