I was out at the range today with Ian and his new (to him) AK and 75 rnd Chinese drum magazine. We popped the cover and loaded it up and then wound it 3 full turns. Then we noticed that there was nothing in the feed tower but the follower. (ruh roh!) Could someone please explain the workings of these magazines? How many turns to wind? Where should the follower start out/end up? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

My drum is at home so I'm going from memory here....

Hold middle button down, rotate the carousel clockwise until the follower is all the way in the center. Fill all of the spaces with ammo, close cover, drop a few more in the top to fill the empty space, wind the thing up 3-5 times and you should be ready to go!

I'll add that after you hold the button and wind the follower all the way to the center, you need to stock the feed tower. To do this, put rounds in the outermost slots closest to the feed tower and rotate the mechanism counterclockwise to deposit rounds in the feed tower. After you do this, hold down the center button and reset the follower to the middle by spinning it clockwise. You should be able to get 75 or 76 rounds in the drum, but I don't have access to mine now... it's cold in the garage.

CAUTION

You must COUNT CLICKS. DO NOT OVERCLICK OR YOU MAY DAMAGE THE SPRING :what:

18 to 19 clicks for semi auto fire, 21 to 22 clicks for full auto fire. ALSO do NOT just release spring pressure by pushing the center button. Two ways to release pressure:

1) Use a mag unloader to empty the mag while under pressure (or do it by hand)

20 Preferred method by moi: Wear a pair of leather work gloves and hold tight to the wind up key, taking up the tension with a death grip while depressing the button with the other finger. You need to somehow secure the mag or it will turn also. You can let some of the tension up and then release the button and adjust your grip to continue the process. If you just push the button you will explosively release the spring and eventually damage the spring, so says the Chinese info sheet that came with my drums.
