Ok, here is another dumb drum mag question. I posted earlier about which drum mag for the AK was best. The answer was a resounding Chinese drum. Well I went to a gun show today and only found one there and it was going for $100. It was labeled as "new" but there was some slight rust on it. When I opened it up it looked clean inside, but that's when I realized I had no idea how to test it to make sure it will work properly. When I moved the gear inside, it moved ok. But when I closed it and tried to wind it up nothing seemed to happen. Because I wasn't to sure if it was working properly or not, I passed.
Hence the reason for this post. When looking at a Chinese drum mag, what should I be looking for to make sure it's in working order? For some reason I thought I'd hear the spring winding up when I turned the crank. Kinda like when you wind an old clock up. I'm I incorrect in this?
