Ok, here is another dumb drum mag question. I posted earlier about which drum mag for the AK was best. The answer was a resounding Chinese drum. Well I went to a gun show today and only found one there and it was going for $100. It was labeled as "new" but there was some slight rust on it. When I opened it up it looked clean inside, but that's when I realized I had no idea how to test it to make sure it will work properly. When I moved the gear inside, it moved ok. But when I closed it and tried to wind it up nothing seemed to happen. Because I wasn't to sure if it was working properly or not, I passed.

Hence the reason for this post. When looking at a Chinese drum mag, what should I be looking for to make sure it's in working order? For some reason I thought I'd hear the spring winding up when I turned the crank. Kinda like when you wind an old clock up. I'm I incorrect in this?

Yeah, it's kind of like a clock. Mine I have to push in a bit on the handle to get the mechanism to engage. Might try opening it up and pushing the button to see if it's wound all up already. The button would release it.

You can check here for some loading info which may give some insight.
