Here are some scans of a mainland Chinese gun magazine. I always thought it strange that a country that does not allow its citizen to own weapons would have such a high quality gun magazine. They cover all types of firearms and always have some of the best photography I have ever seen. You can find this magazine at any and all magazine stands in Shanghai. I wish I was better at reading Chinese, from what little I can read, the write-ups are as good as the photography (no advertisers to please).

Most of Chinas economy is black market. my fiance is Chinese and we will be visiting China this winter hopefully.. shes been telling me about the HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE black market they have there. It sounds impressive i cant wait to see it.

Be careful when over there, you are "lao wei", and if you have contraband, you are in big trouble. Shanghai is not as bad as other areas.

lao-wai isnt that bad of a term.. it simply means old foriener, a term of endearment... its when they start calling you Gwei-lo (white devil) that you gotta worry We wont be going to the coast though, im going thankfully to the Szechuan province (AWWWWWWWSOME FOOD!!!) In Chengdu, we also might take a trip form there to the Great Wall or Tibet as well

Yes, Gwei-lo is bad, I have only been called that one time by an old crazy woman.
In Shanghai, lao-wei means "round eyes" and is applied to all foreigners.

It can get very strange in the very rual areas.

I remember when I found an airsoft magazine in Taiwan. I had a moment of "Cognitive Dissonance" until I realized they were all BB guns.

Actually Lao Wei simply means "Old Forienger" Lao being old, like Lao lung "old wolf"

Gwei Lo though can mean either white devil or white ghost.

I was in Flushing Queens in NY a while back and some chinese woman there caled me a lao wei, i didnt know i was a forienger in the USA

Yeah, some of the guns are weird, but the articles inside are about real guns. Lots of military weapons write-ups on the inside, but sometimes they will cover air soft guns too.
I always assumed the one on issue 9 was some custom revolver. I have heard of people putting different barels on different frames.

Python barrels on S&W frames are called "Smythons" or "Smolts". I understand these were made as PPC guns before S&W made full-lug barrels and before custom barrels were readily available.

The only gun that beat my dad when he graduated the academy was a Smolt. He was shooting the standard fixed sight model against a guy with a Smolt. The guy with the Smolt won by 3 points, dont say much for him does it?

Actually, it is a S&W frame. Note the S&W logo on the grip, and the round trigger guard. (The Walther's is square.)

It's a Walther made frame joined to a S&W US made slide and barrel. Not a homemade job, but a factory gun. (The polymer frame is stamped "Walther" as well as "S&W")

Gwei Lo's teaching Gwei Lo's Chinese. Like the blind leading the blind.

Judging from the spelling, this is Cantonese, right?

Gwei = Demon/Devil/Ghost
Lo = Man/Guy/Dude
Bok = White (as in Bok Choi, or white vegetable)

Gwei Lo means foreigner. Depending on HOW it's said, it either means foreigner in a very neutral way, or it means "Who the hell is this guy?!"

Bok Gwei means "White Devil." Hok Gwei means "Black Devil."

The Chinese language isn't quite as PC as we're used to here in the U.S. China is the "Middle Kingdom," after all. Everyone else is called a "Gwei" by default. The literal translation of the word actually makes it sound worse than it really is. They often use "Gwei" to refer to each other as well, much like we'd say, "you sly devil, you." In other words, pay more attention to the TONE of the word than the word itself.

Now that you're in the know, I gotta think up new terms to call y'all!
