Just got the YL12 shotgun from Canada Ammo its a cool little gun. I was looking for an Ithaca shorty for my collection this will hold me over until I can get a 60's one. The action is very as smooth the only hiccup was the user ;)

Anyway after a few hundred shells I will have a better idea of how well it works and do a review.

Can you guys in the US buy Chinese shotguns? This is pretty much a Steven's 350 as well.

Outstanding, another weapon they're now tooled up to fight us with in the future supported by westerners yearning for inexpensive alternatives.

The YL-12 is not a Ithaca Model 37 and never will be, please do not rank that piece of junk with a fine gun.

It looks pretty good for $200 gun. The Stevens is heavy but for slug gun that isn't really a bad thing.

We CAN buy Chinese shotguns, but I'd rather have the real Ithaca 37. Bottom one is a 1976 model (200 bucks on gunbroker), the top one is brand new in that picture (600 bucks).

The new Ithacas are every bit as good in quality as the older models.

Actually when it comes to 12ga field grade guns and police type weapons the new ones are better.

I tried to get an Ithaca but up hear they command 400+ dollars up here and I wanted and then if I got a good deal I would have had to chopped the barrel down and get a beaded sight. Did not want to butcher a nice field gun for shooting steel.

Funny how Ithaca can copy the Remington 17 but when the Chinese do it its an abomination.

Anyone have a Remington Model 17. I'd love to add that to my collection.

Ithaca did not copy the Remington Model 17, Ithaca re-designed it to make it better.

If the Ithaca is a copy it is a copy of a John Browning design---Remington DID NOT design the Model 17!!!!

John Browning and John Pederson created the Model 17 for Remington.

The 17 discontinued in 1933 but had patent protection until 1937 then Ithaca used it to produce a very nice shotgun but pretty much a copy of JMB and JP's design.

I bought a cheap copy of the shotgun so I would not have to cut down a real Ithaca. Short ones are hard to find up here but I'm still looking.

Why do you NEED a short one?

are not standard barrel lengths good enough?

Also extra barrels can be had from different suppliers, ebay for one!

Good point. An extra barrel would be cool. I have my have my 3.5 inch semi goose gun and full length Model 12s even a few singles but I like my shorties. I'm going to need a separate case for all of them soon.

Just like a guy that likes snub nosed revolvers I dig the little shotgun.

How long is that barrel? Gun laws are so weird, obviously >18" barrels are restricted here in the states but not an issue up north.

Don't care how close they copied, forever, or cloned it. It ain't an Ithaca. Period. I hate to admit it but I had one of those clonky, lardass things and couldn't get rid of it soon enough. When I worked in China I learned about their total lack of ethics in business or anything else. Saw the foundries where they made clones of US golf clubs that hadn't even hit the market yet. Was offered dvds of films just being released in theaters. Nothing good is coming out of there.

Kind of sad to say, but the Chicom copy of the Remington 870 (Hawk 982) is actually getting better reviews in many quarters than it's Remington 870 Express counterpart. I think that's due to Remmy's QC slippage in recent times (at least on the Express/Tactical models).

I have a Hawk 982 (the Rem 870 copy). The only problem with it, and the Ithaca copy is drop at the heel of the stock. It seems that without proper sporting arms to draw data from, they used AK-pattern stocks to figure out the geometry. Luckily, at least on the 982, Remington stocks fit fine. I expect the Ithaca stocks will do the same.

These guns are not comparable to their American counterparts. I look at them as simple, rugged tools. Heck, I refer to mine as "the shovel". Elegant and well finished? Nope. But it puts a lot of lead into the air, as designed. For a HD gun, that'll do.

Yes, in general their products are cheaper but inferior. I compared two AK47s which are considered to experts so called the best semi-authos of this type. Chinese Polytech and Arsenal Classic with wood furniture. Both rifles were second hand and in excellent condition. Quite surprisingly both were priced w/in $50 of each other. The Arsenal product was better.

Pretty gun.
Yes, real nice. One of domestically made products that is actually worth the extra cost. Like others I miss the good old days when manufacturers provided guns with means of attaching a sling. I'm sick and tired of giving my money away to companies like Uncle Mike's.

I recently visited the Ithaca plant and IMO the new Ithaca M 37 is better than the old ones. The new ones are made using modern manufacturing techniques and equipment and are very nice to say the least...

I get it you don't like Chinese guns. That's cool I understand I do like them because I can get them cheap mostly because you guys down south banned most of them. Thanks by the way. I hate Iphones and they are made in China. Actually the phones are OK, but I don't care for Apple.

The YL-12 worked fine on the Combat shotgun course this morning. It was raining and dirty. I wasn't too worried about messing up the finish :D Worked as good as my 870 or any of the Mossbergs and did better than most using slugs. Not pretty but effective! I love that as cheap as it was it came ready for a sling, I tossed a slightly modified sks sling on it and I was set. Its only 5+1 but if you remember to top it off as you move from barricade it'll get you through 10 rounds fast.
