I'm new to this forum but I need some help with my sks. I'm aware that jamming is fairly common among the sks'. I do not have any issues with the spent round getting stuck in the chamber, I just have a problem with the bolt sliding the round INTO the chamber. The tip of the bullet jams right below the barrel so I have to pull the bolt back and stick something slim like a key or knife under the bullet to angle it up into the chamber. It does it usually every 2 to 3 shots and sometimes when I manually cock it after loading the mag. I'm puzzled as to what to do to fix this. I have thoroughly cleaned everything including the gas chamber and i've gotta figure out how to fix this:confused: Thanks for the help.

no, they're armor piercing. we've used the same ammo in a few others without any issues.

i have a yugo sks that likes to do that when you put you hand on the magazine while putting in a stipper clip or fireing with your hand on the mag maybe your mag is a little loose or your inadventaly touching it

Are you using the stock, fixed 10 rounder? If so,check that the ''duck bill'' [magazine ''tang'']is properly seated. If it is,and it STILL is jamming, try a Tapco aftermarket mag.The SKS,properly cleaned and properly reassembled is one of the most jam-free designs I've ever seen, rivaling the excellent Garand for performance.

I have a tapco on the way because I've been thinking that the mag is the problem. But ya, I do have the original 10 rd mag and i don't touch it when i'm shooting. What is the "duck bill"?

If your confident with your hands. use a dremmel and make two feed ramps on that step just below the chamber opening. I say two cuz the rounds are staggered in the mag.
Good quality mags are nice also.

Go to you tube and type in ''SKS disassembly'' and watch as the guy separates all the pieces, you'll see that the mag has an extension, that, with the sheet metal ''magazine body'' or dust cover form a kind of clamp that attach to a lug on the receiver.Sometimes you can reassemble the rifle with the magazine misaligned, and that'll cause the bullets to smack into the reciever just below the chamber.

Im wondering how slow yer releasing the bolt....
cause thats about the only way Ive ever been able to get an SKS to jam..
