Hey yall. I know the vast majority of yall will tell me, "dont bother with them, they're all junk"... but please hear me out.

I've got a 20 round aftermarket "duckbill" type magazine for my SKS. I leave it in place, and reload it in the same manner as the original fixed mag.

Now the issue... If I put more than 15 rounds in the 20-round mag, it jams like crazy. However, I've discovered that if I only put in 15, it functions perfectly. So essentially this makes it as a 15-round mag by default.

When it jams, the nose of the round is slammed into the spot below the chamber throat. Its as if the nose of the round isnt being lifted into position to feed into the chamber.

Any ideas why this occurs? Anybody have a fix to this? I wouldnt mind grinding or trimming whatever needs to be adjusted to make it work with the 20-rounder. Thanks!

Get a fixed 20 round mag.

Where would I find one? I'm assuming you're talking about the Chinese made mags with the star embossed on the sides? I've searched online, and come up with nothing. Any leads would be greatly appreciated!

The spring is too weak and/or the follower is dragging, and the feed lips are not letting the nose up fast enough.

I was thinking... would it solve those issues if I bought a 20 round AK-47 mag, disassembled it, and installed the spring/follower into the SKS mag?

I have a 20 round fixed, and it also jams if you try to load it to capacity, so I don't know if that will fix it, either. I can load 15-17 rounds and have few problems that way. I stopped using it, though. It still didn't load well from stripper clips.

Until an US manufacturer starts making a 20 round fixed magazine that works reliably, works with BHO, works with stripper clips, and doesn't cause me to dance the 922 blues, I'll stick with the factory fixed versions.

I just came across Tapco's 20 round mag... the only downside is that I'd have to grind/sand down the mag opening for it to fit the wood stock, since it was originally designed to work with Tapco's replacement stocks. Cant decide if I should give it a try or not.

As a side not, they have a cool video on the webpage.
