Here’s another rifle I picked up last month. This is my third Chinese Type 53. It’s all matching except the magazine floorplate.
There’s no importer stamp on the rifle. It appears to be a Vietnam bring back.
Now this rifle ain’t pretty but it has a bright bore.
I have found the Chinese Type 53s to be much smoother then the Russian and other M44s.

The stock is in pretty good shape other then the the piece of wood missing from on old repair was done.

I’m not sure of the year of manufacture, there is pitting on the last number of the year. 195?

My father in-law was in the Red Guard and had one of these rifles during the Chinese Cultural Revolution. He was awfully surprised to find out that I had the exact same rifle in my collection. It was definitely an exciting / surreal part of his visit to America heading out to into the woods to fire off a few rounds from that old rifle.

I'm turning green with envy!! Why do all those old surplus rifles seem to gravitate to you Gunny? Maybe it's because you live in the south and gravity pulls things down. My state does not allow the sale of firearms in pawn shops and that fact is getting me riled up.
I turn to my dogs for sympathy and all I get is bitten. :) This calls for another beer!
