Hello all. A neighbor offered to sell me his Chinese Type 54 today for $100 and I was just wondering if this would be a good deal. It is in pretty bad shape externally. It has no rusting or pitting, the bluing is just deteriorated badly. It is dated 1966 and is chambered for the 7.62x25 round. It has no mark of manufacturer that I can find. It has three (I'm guessing Chinese) markings on the top of the slide. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Grab it. For that price it's a steal. Norinco Type 54 is a great clone of Russia TT33. If there is not rusting nor pitting, who care how bad the finish is. Surplus 7.62x25 Tok ammo are dirt cheap (cheapest centerfire ammo out there). It will be your range work horse.

I have the Type 54-1, and love it. If wasn't for the US-China trade BS, I will have many more of Norinco's Tok clone.

Yes sir, I would take it. After receiving my M57 on Monday, I am open to the idea of more Tokarevs.

That crappy bluing is very typical for a 1960s PRC T54. If there is no safety or import mark it is most-likely a Vietnam bring-back, and if so it's worth far more than $100. Get it and say thank you very sweetly.

I had two of them and they were very accurate but they don't last long because the metal the slide is made from is soft and on both of mine the hammer ramp began spreading out where it contacted the hammer and as it spread it began rubbing against the frame rails on both sides.

I was able to file off the edges of the ramp that had spread and kept shooting them for maybe another 1,000 rounds.

I would guess I had about 3,000 rounds through each before the problem occurred so if you don't over use them they are very accurate good shooters.
