I figure everybody get's a kick out of these polls since we get to live vicariously through others from time to time. I know I do anyway. So that being said here we go.

My next gun will most likely be one of the four.

Smith and Wesson 617 .22LR 6 or 10 shot- I don't own a double action .22LR at this time and have a hankering for one. As a side not are wood grips readily available for these guns?

Marlin 39A .22 Lever Acton- I have been thinking about a pistol caliber lever action for some time and had planned on a .357 1894 but have really come to the conclusion that I just love shooting .22 and since the primary duty this gun will server is giggle plinker I have decided .22 is the way to go. I love the feel and looks of the 39A.

Smith and Wesson 642 - Now I have plenty of CCW choices and even have a model 60 JFrame that is my most carried handgun. I just sort of want to build a carry gun up with the short laser grips and shrouded hammer. No need to what-so-ever, just sort of a more money then brains hankering, course aren't they all after that first .357 maggie or shotty but I digress.

Smith and Wesson 638 - Same story as above only I am not sure if I want a fully shrouded hammer or want to retain the ability to shoot single action.

So let me have em'.

In case anybody is interest I have also set up a paypal account so that any of you can submit donations should the overwhelming spirit of giving move you. That's [email protected]. :D

Would make more sense to at least narrow it to pistol or rifle first.

However, for giggle plinking of all kinds I think a rifle is useful in a more varied sense, in more entertaining ways than a pistol. Rimfires are plain fun. The 39A is a high quality firearm to last generations. Pretty accurate too.

Get the Marlin. My grandfather (he's going to be 84 this year) has one that he bought in high school and it is awesome. Accurate, fun to shoot and fun to shoot.

Nice. My grandfather traded an older rare octogon barreled .22 Marlin for the newer Model 39. He looked up how much that 'old' gun was worth now and just shakes his head.

I shoot mostly handguns and a Ruger 10-22 quite a bit but have always kinda wanted a Marlin 39

My late model 642 has a self-destructing finish. Substantial chipping in some areas. It's been exposed only to CLP, carried minimally, and not abused.

It's a great piece otherwise, but I wouldn't buy another one.

Chris,

Go with the 39A. You're more of a rifle shooter than a pistol shooter, so it would see more use then the others, even the 617. Also, I don't have a 39A, so I can shoot yours. ;)

39's are well made fun guns, and having one in a collection is never a bad thing, just as long as you remember what it is--in my experience they aren't tack drivers, but my definition of "accurate" may be different than many when it comes to 22's. It would probably keep up with your average 10/22 out of the box. Its a classic I believe they are discontinuing? Get one now while you can.

the 642 is a revolver that's good to have in a collection, but I'm not sure they are of the same quality these days and you can always pick up a used snubbie somewhere cheap, but that'd be my second choice probably.

IMHO, you haven't posted a legitimate poll. Looks like you have a Marlin 39A along with 3 handguns - no contest at all. In my book, that's a one item poll, you communist! :D :D

You will not be sorry you bought your new (or used) 39A. ;)

I LOVE my 6-shot 617, shoots like it's got eyes. And it takes standard K-frame grips so wood grips should be no problem, I replaced the wood finger-groove grips that came with mine with square-butt grips.

Tag from my great-grandpa's 39A

Chris,

Go with the 39A. Same reasons Frank cited. Besides, you can still shoot my 1894C while I play with your 39A. :D

I have my grandfather's Marlin 39. It is one of the handful of guns that will never leave me. It is more accurate than I am, much better looking than many of the autos out there, and darn enjoyable to shoot. You'll never regret it.

Where's the choice for a Sig?

Strange I know but the only SIG's I really have a hankering for right now are a P210, X-Five or 550 which go from expensive to are you out of your mind to not even if you give us a kidney.

Chris

Get the Marlin. Everyone needs a good .22 rifle and the Marlin is one of the best leverguns.
