Hello again everyone.

Just wondering if anyone can speak to the questions I raised in post # 24.

Thanks for all the help!

Glocks issues with weapon lights were with 40SW guns. 9mm never had much issues until gen4.

9mm glocks are over sprung from the factory which aids in reliability.

Ive yet to find that magical 100% glock and I've owned 10 of em...
Hope that helps

tarosean,

Thanks for the reply. Overall reliability in a g34 would be better with a gen 3 you think?

That makes sense, I know that no gun will have a perfect record indefinitely. I am sure you have had some very long streaks of flawless operation in between failures though, right?

I have 10,000 through my first M&P 9 with zero malfunctions.

I had my first failure with my second M&P last month. As I seated a mag the slide auto-forwarded (which often happens when seating a mag) but this time it failed to pick up and chamber a round. I pulled the trigger on an empty chamber, racked the slide and went to back to it. I am hoping that the incident was a mag issue. This second M&P 9 has about 4,000 through it now.

annoying question: if you like the M&P platform and it sounds like you do, why switch to glock? They feel very different. And the M&P has been more reliable in my personal experience. Your glock mags can be returned or sold. :D

If it's a range gun or home defense weapon I would go with the G34 for the extra sight radius, etc.. If it might get carried the G17 is the better bet. Have both. If I had to chose I would keep the G17. Just a little more versatility.

While all Glock 9mm's may be over sprung, the early Gen 4's were specifically over sprung. I believe they were using the same recoil spring assemble for both the .40 and 9mm guns. Glock has subsequently fixed that problem.

Glock 9mm problems did arrive around the introduction of the Gen 4 guns. However, other than the over sprung recoil spring issue, which has been fixed, the other issues Glock's have experienced, ejection and extraction, were with both the Gen 4 and Gen 3 guns of the same era. I would not expect a current production generation, either Gen 3 or Gen 4, to be more reliable than the other. They should be equal.

I'd pick the one that feels better to you, or has the features you prefer.

The reason I wanted to add Glock to my collection is primarily for parts availability.

As you know from prior posts in this thread I have 2 M&P 9s and like them a lot, but it is so difficult to get certain parts. If I wasnt so lazy-busy, I would have already written a letter to S&W tellimg them to go jump in a lake.

I do not want to have to rely on sending a gun to the factory for anything. I am not a gunsmith, but these types of guns are easy to work on. The difficulty of getting M&P parts has left a foul taste in my mouth.

Thanks guys.

I ordered a 34 gen 4 yesterday and should be picking it up Friday or Saturday. The best part is I have a $400 gift card in my pocket for the lgs. At the end of 2016 IDPA season at my local club, the names of all the SOs went into a hat. I came away with one of the prizes.
