A-Bolt Varmint .204 Ruger $699

CZ 527 .223 $560

Win M70 HB 22-250 $675

Or Savage rifles - have one and is excellent.
Kinda looking for something different.

What are your thoughts on these rifles?
thanks,

I would probably get the CZ 527 Kevlar Varmint if I were to buy a .223 bolt rifle. My dad has one in 7.62X39 and it is a very well made gun. Unfortunately, his does not shoot economical or surplus ammo very well at all. He has to reload his with longer bullets.

I second the .223. A lot cheaper to reload. It might not have the terminal balistics of the hotter or larger calibers, but it kills em good and dead.

Of course since I started my varmint career using my Remington 700 VS in .308 using 110 gr. V-Max, nothing has the terminal balistics to compare. I do know my 50 gr. loads for my .223 take at least half as much Winchester 748 as the 110 gr. .308 loads.

The .204 and the .22-250 of course won't take that much, but the more money you save, the more you can shoot, the more fun!

You're gonna think I'm nuts.

The H&R SB2 Ultra Heavy barrelled varminter.

My .223 will do anything I ask within the constraints of the caliber in this platform for $180 off gunbroker.

I gave $400 for a "used, like new" Ruger 77 Mk II in .223. Three-shot 1/2 MOA even with the factory trigger. I sold the Tasco scope and topped it with an old Leupold 3x9; added a Timney trigger. It's not at all picky about what bullet is used.

Neat little coyote gun; not the thing for beaucoup shooting at a prairie dog town, of course.

Weatherby Vanguard in 223 - less than $400 NIB, guaranteed accurate, superb build quality.

Go for the CZ .223. I am amazed at the accuracy I get with it, no modifications at all. Here's what mine can do:

First choice: Get that CZ! That looks amazingly accurate. (nice group theCZ!)

Second choice: Get an additional barrel for your existing savage.
Factory barrel - $150
Barrel wrench - $35
Headspace gauges - $35

Great versatility vs. getting a new gun.......hmmmmm, get the CZ!
