Hi All - I've been narrowing my search down to either the .204 or .22-250 caliber, for varmint and bench target shooting. Still haven't totally made up my mind yet. Interesting though, as the 204 Rifles seem to about $100 less than the 22-250 ???

Anyway, between the following VARMINT grade rifles, which one w/you choose and why ???

- Remington Model 7 Synthetic 204 (or the 700 series if 22-250)
- CZ 527 / 550 Model
- Savage w/Acu Trigger

Thanks so much all for your much appreciated comments !!!

I have a Savage and so far I love it. It is accurate right out of the box and reasonably priced. I would go with that.

As far as caliber, at what range do you intend to do your hunting and target practice?

the rem m7 is a fairly light sporter, w/ a skinny pipe on it... not what i would classify as a varmint/target rifle... but, of the guns you listed, my choice is the rem.

good luck.

I found a very clean and good shape gun on the "used guns" rack at my local gun store, I ended up buying it around $100... it's a Ranger 103 and supposedly not half bad for the money I've put in

Likewise there's supposed to be the Marlin model 80's <same gun, different name:confused: > off gunsamerica.com for $50

I've been very pleased with the accuracy of my Savage 12FV in .204. Recoil is so nonexistent that I can spot all my own hits right through the scope, even at high power. Definitely the funnest rifle I've owned, and shoots .5 MOA groups regularly @100.

In that situation, I'd get either:

-Savage 12BVSS, MRRP $721 http://www.savagearms.com/12bvss.htm

-Remington XR-100 Rangemaster, MSRP $905 http://www.remington.com/firearms/centerfire/xr100.htm

-Howa 1500 Varminter Supreme, MSRP $670 http://www.snipercentral.com/howa.htm

-CZ 550 Varmint Laminated, MSRP $749 http://www.cz-usa.com/01.detail.php?id=21

One of those, unless I was rich, in case I'd get a Cooper of Montana. Tough call; all good.

And I'd get it in .223 rem or .243 win, with .22-250 being third choice, and .204 ruger being last choice.
