Looking at a CZ 527 Varmint Model Kevlar stocked in .204 Ruger. Looking to buy my first .204 and in an accurate rifle. I can pick one up locally for $840. No sales tax in Oregon!!! It will be used for target shooting, ground squirrel "control", and coyotes.
I already have a 22 250 (honest .25 group @100 yards for the last 20 years),an accurate .223, .22 magnum, and .25-06 I've been happy with. What are your experiences with CZ ? Any other brand in that price range I'm overlooking. How do you like the .204 caliber for varmint shooting?

I hate to rub this in, I have one where I work for $729.99 no tax. Great looking rifle, did you know that they use dual opposed locking lugs? The action is very easy to operate. My brothers and I all own CZ 452 .22lr's, all shoot as well as $900 Kimber .22's, yet cost only ~$400. I have sold several 452's and everyone has been very happy with them. I have sold only two CZ centerfire rifles, one being a 550FS in .308 which the customer loved and just recently I sold a 527 varmint laminate in .223. Haven't heard from that guy yet, though he did call and ask about ordering another rifle so I assume he is happy.

As for other suggested rifles, the Savage 12 BVSS is a beautiful rifle available in .204, I personally hate the accutrigger, some love it. Also consider a TC Encore, for about $750 you could get the receiver and walnut stock, a custom pillar-bedded forend, adjustable hinge pin, and custom 26" HB in .204 and have the option to have that setup for other calibers. In a few weeks, I will have mine back from the Smith's and will post pics. (6.5x55 26" HB w/ everything else I suggested, soon to have a custom 23" HB .222rem)

The .204, personally I think it shows potential, explosive velocity, flat shooting to 300yrds, and a smaller projective = smaller groups, supposedly very accurate.

forgot to say, my TC Encore looks sweet, front heavy = good for precision shooting + only 41" long with a 26" barrel wooooooo!

I am very happy with the CZ527, but the Kevlar stock would not be my first choice. I do not like the palm swells. The fine walnut stocks have nice narrow wrists which make the rifle much easier to handle, IMO.

Get what you like and I hope you enjoy it.

The 204 is a rapid cartridge. I was standing behind my prairie dog/coyote hunting buddy when he popped a prairie dog at maybe 120 yards? I was perhaps 30 yards behind my buddy and I saw the prairie dog explode before I heard the shot.

I was impressed.
