Hello,

I head a horrible experience with a PM40 years ago, but not that long ago. Still, I think I want to to moving up from the pocket .380.

My questions: get a cw9 and chop the grip to CM9 length or just get CM9?
-does the CW9 have any benefits over the cm9 other than length (guide rod construction, feeding, etc.)
-has anyone made the chop themselves? how did the end result look?
-is the 1/2 inch in the CW9 worth making the covert model cm9?
-would such a chop make the chopped CW9 completely unsellable?

Thank you for the thoughts on this!

Just buy a CM9. PSA had them on sale for $299 a few weeks ago. I'm sure you could find one for close to that without needing to hack up a CW9. Also, the 9mm Kahrs have a reputation for being much more reliable than the problematic .40SW and .45 ACP versions. My own CM9 has been 100% reliable through a few thousand rounds so far.

But, to answer your questions:

-does the CW9 have any benefits over the cm9 other than length (guide rod construction, feeding, etc.)

No. The design is practically identical, with the exception of being ~ 1/2" taller and ~1/2" longer.

-has anyone made the chop themselves? how did the end result look
?

Again, considering how inexpensive the CM9 is, I doubt many people have bothered.

-is the 1/2 inch in the CW9 worth making the covert model cm9?

That's up to you to decide. Personally, I can pocket the CM9, and the CW9 would be more difficult.

-would such a chop make the chopped CW9 completely unsellable?

I wouldn't pay for one.

I would agree with Fishbed77: buy a CM9 versus chopping off the grip frame of your CW9. Not worth the time and effort for what would be a scarcely discernible result. I had a CW40 some years ago and while I did have problems with the polymer frame, I thought the overall size and feel of the gun were first rate.

Agreed with just buy the reasonably priced CM9. Plus, compared to the CW9, the CM9's shorter grip makes a bigger difference in concealability than the shorter barrel does.

If you're looking for something for pocket carry I would definately recommend the CM9. The CW will get you an extra 1/2" barrel length but I don't think that's really enough to matter. I've owned both the CM9 and CW9. Both ran 100% from day one.
