Tooth Chipper, Concept (Hybrid 1911A1/warthog) where can I get this made?

Ajax-

That is an awesome idea.

I love how everyone comes on here and tells you how impractical it is. Duh. Not every gun has to be practical for concealed carry folks...

Actually it could be practical come to think of it; these little guns don't hold that many rounds, so you're likely to be reduced to pistol whipping anyway....

Make sure we get lots of pics if you manage to pull this thing off!

The mods to the frame would be relatively easy-- all you need is a good (skilled) welder who is willing to tackle it. Getting a Govt Model to work with a slide that short would take a little tinkering. Then again a Springfield Micro Compact works so hmmm.

Ajax you've got me thinking about tackling this personally. If I was a little less busy I probably would.

I like the concept --it's a fun gun.

Thanks guys,

2rco, if you do decide to tackle this project let me know... or if you know of a welder who is willing to perform the modifications to a pair of 80% frames (if they are not an FFL)

I could complete the 80%'s myself or send them out to an 07ffl for serializing, polishing and bluing.

or if you hear of a gunsmith who can modify a pair of registered frames also point them my way.

really good welders are hard to find, particularly for small stuff like guns.

completely impractical, good enough reason to do it IMO. Kinda reminds me of the the steam punk ak I saw not too long ago. I hope you find a way to get this thing done. I'm looking forward to the pics.:D

Just a thought,

But if you fired the gun empty and had the slide locked back, there would not be any risk of Knocking it out of battery or having an accidental discharge.

And having a gun that you can punch with might be a decent stand off feature to allow you to reload.

It would also be nearly impossible to have the gun turned on yourself in a grappling situation, as the knuckle holes would make it nearly impossible to twist the gun put of your hand, and the short slide would eliminate a significant amount of leverage.

It's possible that im just looking for justifications to excuse the fact That I want a neat toy... But it's also possible that it's not quite as impractical as it may seem at first glance.

We won't know just how impractical it is untill it gets made....

You might try TJ's Custom Gunworks. He's got pics on his site of similar builds.

On the one hand, not my cup of tea. At all.

On the other, kind of a neat thing to look at. My biggest concern would be my fingers getting rocked every time I shot it. A little .45 like that isn't without recoil, I and I would think that having a knuckle duster would just beat the crap out of your fingers. But, whatever. Who am I to say whats cool and should or shouldn't be attempted?

I like it! And as said above, a good welder/machinist/metal fab worker could easily do this for ya. Do you have a machinist school local? I have a buddy who teaches at the local vo-tech, and he is always doing something wild as projects at the school. Someone like that could cut out the knucks part and would either be able to weld it in or would likely know someone local who could.

All in all, a silly, useless, and in most areas illegal modification, that would cause far more problems than it would solve.

However.......... the American Handgunner did a big front page write up some years ago of a "SEAL pistol" that had among other features, a huge skull crusher spike on the bottom of the main spring housing, and other features no SEAL would dream of having.

These come under the heading of fantasy or fun gun modifications. To have a true one-off as a conversation piece would be a show stopper.
In short, if you can afford it, why not?
People do stranger things with gun, knives, and cars.

Check your local laws. In Washington state, such a modification would be illegal.

Maybe you could make a trigger guard like a FAMAS.

Try Kase Reeder, I've seen one of his compact 1911's that had a similar mod. Just watch out for the tacky all over the place.

If I title it as an aow and install a smoothbore
barrel it will be legal under ca law....

I haven't checked out the NYC regulations yet, (not sure if a permit for it will cancel out the brass knuckle laws or not.

But I have places in free states where I can stash it if it comes down to that.

Tj's work doesn't look like factory, nothing against the guy but I'm looking for someone who can make a custom look like a production gun.

I don't think your tooth chipper gun is going to look like a factory gun. You are also going to have some real problems with the timing...which may be why you would need the knuckles because the timing is going to make it unrealiable unless you do some serious custom loading or come up with a new recoil system.

Don't let Taurus see it, or they will make it in three different colors and barrel lengths. And none of them will work out of the box. Any company that would make The Judge would jump all over this.

taurus guns are great... their CS not so good.

You can turn 4 oz MMA gloves on people in a grappling situation, you could certainly do it with this. You don't need much slide length to get enough leverage to overpower the grip strength of four fingers. wrenching that thing could be very nasty on the fingers.

I have no issue with it (if legal in your locality) as a novelty. If you try to tout it as practical then people ought not complain when others point out its serious shortcomings as practical weapon.

I was also going to suggest contacting Red Jacket if you had your heart set on it. Maybe you'll even make an episode of their show.

I also question whether it can be made to be reliable.

IMO it would be quicker to grab with a single hand gard rather than the holes for each finger.

I agree but it would ruing the look the OP is going for. I'd simply stick to the justification simply being that a certain look is desired and run with that. The finger holes are a serious issue for a reactive draw, particularly one under stress. The difficult would be furthered buy the OPs suggestion it wouldn't be carried in a holster but in a pocket where its orientation would not be constant or consistent (I'll leave the risk of blowing your know what off with such a carry method alone. I should find the link to that old thread where the guy did just that with a single action gun carried in similar manner sans a good holster.).
