I headed to PGC SUnday for a little R&R. Unfortunately, there was a trap shoot so I couldn't shoot wobble on 7, the 5 stand setup was not working right and so I ended up on Range 12 shooting trap with a variety of non trapshooters.

Fine with me, I'm a shotgunner and not a trapshooter per se.

I noted that some of the non familiar faces were carrying brand new 870 Expresses. One young lady there was with her dad, him with a 1300 Winchester and her with a brand new Express she had never fired before. I shot on the same squad with them and enjoyed seeing her grin after smashing a target. She mentioned she would be hunting with her dad and some cousins now that she was "Equipped".

Actually, she hit most of them that round. For a beginning shooter with a new gun, she did exceptionally well.

I was helping some new shooters so I didn't get an chance to talk to other folks with brand new 870s and nice smiles.

It looks like it was a good Christmas for lots of folks.

Any of you get a shotgun this year from Santa?....

Wife is getting me an HD shotgun soon as I go to the gun show this weekend and pick one finally.
Been banging my head against the choice of an 870 Express or a 590a1.
I'm a little more in favor of the 870 for add-ons and feel but leaning towards the 590 for the look and finish....ohhh decisions decisions..lol

I got a Remington 870 Express home/field combo, along with a couple of extra chokes (a full and a skeet). I took the silly door breacher choke off the home defense barrel and put the skeet choke in it instead.

I got a new 24" Field Barrel for my Mossberg but unfortunately its been back ordered. Also got credit at Gander.

Also of note is my own gift to myself which is a Conservation Club membership which means I pay member rates for trap now!

Parts for my saiga project I've detailed on this forum (I'll be updating that thread soon :)) and some ammo but no new shotgun:(

Not for me, but my brother and I did get our pop a BT-99. I found it a very nice lightly used one about a month ago and got it for his christmas gift. We finally had some decent weather here on Sunday and took him to the trap range. Was nice to get the old guy out and shooting a bit.

I bought my wife a H&R single barrel .410 shotgun for Christmas and it's her "nightstand" buddy. I bought her a 20ga. pump, but she was a little shy with the weight and the length of pull was a bit much for her.

She'd a shade over five foot tall and light in stature ( very pretty also!):D

She handled one at a friends house and was smitten with it, soo.... I did what I thought I should do.

She has Winchester OOO on hand for the goblins should they come a callin'.

I work alot of 12 hr. shifts and she wanted to have a little oompha to back up her .38 snubbie. The little .410 should do the trick and shes comfy with it.

Makes me feel a little better working those long nights!;)

No new shotguns for me, 870 No.1, 870 No.2, 870 No.3 and 870 No.4 have been serving me quite well...
I did get a toaster oven though ;)

Well, Santa didn't bring me any shotguns this year, but he brought a very nice leather shell pouch and a leather break down case for my new to me Beretta 686. He also brought me a ginormous Gus style straw hat in an effort to not have any more chunks of my ears and neck cut off. My wife is on something of a campaign. Every time the subject comes up, she asks, "Tell me again how many shotguns you have?" Followed closely by "and how many guns do you have in total? ... Do you really need another one?"

My response is "I wasn't aware that we were talking strictly about NEED."

I hope everyone has had a great Holiday, I know I sure have.

Actually I bought for Christmas 2 shotguns for my son and I to enjoy this year. An 83 YO man I know "used to shoot skeet and trap , and I want to sell the last guns I bought" . One was a Browning Citori hi rib Clays model with Invector chokes 30" barrels from the 80s . The other gun was a Winchester 101 Skeet from the late 70s, Skeet 1 and Skeet 2 with the then in vogue 26" barrels. Both guns were in nice shape and still nice and snug so I gave him $1500 for both with cases.
The Citori Clays gun will see the most use on clay games as I can change the chokes to fit the game . The gun fits my son and me superbly and he said he shot a 23 and 24 on his first time out to San Jose last week. I think the old Winchester 101 will be a nice upland gun , now that this A zone (Condor country) is mandated steel shot. I think the skeet chokes will work very well with #4 and #6 Fast Steel on pheasant and such. I am gonna pattern it this weekend.

Thanks, Folks.

Personally, giving a loved one a shotgun is as good as getting one to me. Neither happened this year here, but it has in the past and may again.

B5, good to see you back. And last I looked, you were just getting 870 Number 2.

I told ya, they do not breed but they do multiply,heh,heh...

Snarlingiron, the last time that came up here, I pointed out that I had less guns than WW had saucepans. She watches cooking shows on TV and spots the mistakes, but she's a sucker at Williams/Sonoma, etc.

She didn't get my point.

And as for Need, Will, want and need are interchangeable when it comes to guns.

Looks like I am getting an 870 Classic Trap as a late Christmas shotgun thanks to my darling wife. She found it before the holiday, but it has not gotten transferred to my FFL. I should have it sometime shortly after the New Year begins.

It is one of the older ones without the gold-filled roll marks and comes with an adjustable stock.

Classic Trap 1100 is one fine trap gun. Used one myself for a good while.

Edit...thought you said 1100.....870 classic trap should have the same ergonomics. Good shooter!

Dave- Never left, just preoccupied... F Class and tactical/precision bolt action bug has bit hard.
Yes, #3 &#4 came rather quickly. #1, the one you told me that if I stop holding it like a rifle, it might stop biting me, has become a dedicated deer and turkey gun (MC stock, 20" rifle sight, remchoke barrel). #2 is the beloved Classic Trap. #3 came about because I was tired of switching stocks and barrels around with #1. I had a ton of bass pro dollars piling up and it was Remington rebate season, so I bought a new express w/ 28" tube. Liked the laminate stocks and removal of the silly j-lock. #4 is yet another express, in home defense form. It was on the used rack at the local shop and came home for a mere $250. I think I was the first to shoot it. I have since tossed the synthetic furniture in favor of some nice POLICE walnut.
I'll be moving to Laurel soon, so hopefully I'll be able to scrape up a few extra coins and make it out to PG. I see that you are now retired, you've earned it.

The day after Christmas I bought myself an 870 tactical 20ga. Decent end of the year price and they still had the $30 rebate.

Great, Scott. Trap grade 870s have gladdened many a heart. Including mine. A friend has the TB I used to own, and cherishes it.

RC, your father has excellent taste. 37s rock.

B5, not retired, unemployed at the moment. Back to it soon, hopefully. having a kid at 40 and getting him through school sans loans meant not being able to put something aside for retirement. Just a couple more years, though.

Do hope to see you soon. Still shooting most Fridays and now other days sometimes..

Good luck with the 870s, but be nice and leave some for the rest of us....

Fun, I like that model. Enjoy...

Mossberg 500 Persuader.
20" barrel, 7-round magazine.

Full stock, not PGO. PGOs suck.

No gun...my WW thinks I have enough;) but she did give me some gift cards to Cabelas so I think they may turn into a Mec .410 reloader. I NEED to shoot my M42 more and that should make that happen:). Darn .410 shells are way too much money for new!

Yes, they are great. My current trap gun is a TB with a Monte Carlo stock. It dusts clays with its fixed Full choke when I do my part.

It will be interesting to see how I do with the newer RemChoked gun, especially with its adjustable stock. More variables to address, but I am hoping the net result is a gun that better fits me.

"A gun that better fits me"....

Amen, Scott. My TB had a MC stock, and the addition of an adjustable pad and some judicious shimming put it together for me.

To the others, enjoy your guns and maybe even a new reloader in 410.
