Well I realize it is time for me to buy a chrony. In the mean time, has anyone ever chronographed 230 FMJ over Unique in the ranges of 6.0 - 6.3 grains Unique? I know its a shot in the dark...

I am shooting a Firestar .45 and an old 1972 Ruger Convertible.

I shot a 4 shot cloverleaf with the Firestar at 60 feet straight away with the Unique 6.0 load. Shot number 5 was a flyer on me as I got a case of the Yippies!

As I traveled up in load 6.1 grains 6.2, 6.3 grains, the Firestar got worse and the Ruger got better.

Just asking before I try these loads in my nearly 100 year old Colt GI.

While I have not shot it over my chrono, I load 6.0 ge Unique with 230 gr FMJ as my standard 1911 load. Shoots accurately and functions all my 1911A1s well. Also works in my Thompsons reliably.

I have not shot my reloads through a chrono, but my standard load if 230gr Rainier bullet over 6.5gr of Unique. Shoots excellent out of my two, Sig P220's.

I started out years ago using 6.1 or 6.2 but now days I'm quite happy with 5.8 of Unique.

Well it isn't Unique, but I've used Universal with 6.4g under 230g FMJ, but only once. I chrono's 960fps and the brass were really flying. My Hornady book shows 6.4g as max too. I've since settled on 5.8 to 6.0g with 230g FMJ, if I shoot them. Nowadays I shoot 200g LSWC with 4.6g of 231.

From stock 4.6" Glock 21: 6.2gr Unique, 230 FMJ @ 1.240" did 860 fps

From G21 w/5" KKM bbl: 6.5gr Unique, 230gr FMJ @ 1.240": 918 fps avg

From my 1911:

6.0 gr Unique
Avg Fps = 770 (Max 794; Min 741)

6.4 gr Unique [Caution: Maximum Loading]
Avg Fps = 868 (Max 900; Min 845)

I load at 6.2 grains and average around 835 fps.
