I really need to get a chronograph. I don't need all the advanced features, basicly speed and bare bones statistics. I was considering either the Pact Model 1 or the Chrony Beta Master. Does anyone have any recomendations on which way to go? Thank you

xtarheel,
look at the Pact chronographs. Even the older model1's are good enough to give you what you are looking for. Chrony has a few different models with different features - I would recommend that you get a unit that has separate sky screens so it is less expensive when it jumps up in front of a bullet.

I like my Chrony Beta Master, and now that I picked the Chrony Printer to go with it, it's everything I want/need in a chronograph.

It's a nice system, although, I think somewhat cumbersome to use. That is to say, that there are only 3 buttons to access all of the many control functions. Sooooo, for the first dozen or more trips to the range I recommend you have the instruction manual with you.

i'm very happy w/ my competition electronics pro-chrono. retails for under $100, and is less finicky than some others i've shot over.

Agree 100% with Alex. Once I got the hang of my Chrony (master beta with the remote brain), it was great. But the learning curve was a little steep and the user "guide" stinks (hint: chrony your bb gun in the backyard so you're not burning valuable range time while you learn all the functions). Don't forget to factor in the cost of a tripod if you don't have one. You can buy good refurbs on eBay in the camera section for about $15.

I got the Beta Master with the printer. It's a dandy rig but does requires that you spend time learning to use it.

Having said that I was able to take it to the range on trip 1 and collect data without having read about all the functions. Great fun.

Shooting a pellet gun over it till you know how to use it is the way to go.

Packs up pretty small and now that I have set it up a time or two I can get going while the other guys are changing targets.
Pawn shops sometimes have cheap but usable tripods.
