Anybody had any experience with these?
Who makes these pistols?
They seem to be more expensive on the 'regular' bp pistols (1851s, 58s, 60s)
But cheaper than most on the bigger pistols (dragoons, walker)
I was checking prices from texas jacks.
Anybody with some info?
I was at Texas Jacks last weekend while in Fredericksburg and picked up a metric-load of stuff. The current Cimarron's are Uberti's. (If Cimarron ever handled Pietta, it was before I started paying attention.)
As near as I can tell, and others may know better/more, Cimarron seems to specialize in handling more finishes than what you can get from other Uberti sources. Other than that, I'm not aware of anything different in their Uberti's versus getting one from somewhere else.
In looking at my stash of boxes from Texas Jack's, two of them have a Cimarron label on the end (over the standard Uberti label.) Of those two boxes, one is a plain Uberti box and the other is a Cimarron box...same box, just different printing.
I have heard speculation that Cimarron may have different QC/QA arrangements with Uberti, but I don't think so. I suspect differences in prices are due to some of their finishes being more expensive than the plain blue/black you normally see everywhere else. ALSO, be aware that some of the prices quoted around the internet are for product they don't have on hand and may not be available at that price (or at all) if you try to order it.
I'm not sure of the official relationship between Texas Jack's and Cimarron (both in Fredericksburg), but it seems to be pretty close. I assumed one was a retail outlet for a wholesaler/importer with common or closely related owners, but I didn't ask. The guy I was buying from at TJ said he had worked at Cimarron for twenty-something years.
