i just got a new citadel 1911 in 9mm and i couldn't be happier. the only thing i can't figure out is how to remove the ambidextrous thumb safety. i have tried and tried but it won't wiggle out like my other 1911s. there is a pin protruding on the right side to hold the safety in place and i just don't know how to attack it. does anybody have the experience or the magic words i need to say so that i can convert this gun to a single-sided safety? feel free to give me a lecture on how to do this, i am stumped. many thanks as always.--robby:banghead:

If the pin rides of a flange on the right side you just remove the left half as usual then rotate the right side up past the pin and pull it out. There is a tongue and groove joint in the middle that can be a bit tight but that is the only thing holding the two halves together. I have the same thing on my RIA Tactical, it's tight but it does come apart. If you ever have to replace the sear pin make sure you get the same style, the standard length won't work with that safety.

Cock the hammer, take the slide off. I like to take the grips off. With the safety disengaged, remove the right side first. These can be real tight. You may have to use a screwdriver to work it off. {a thin putty knife can also help} The right side has a tenon which fits into a slot on the plunger side safety. {left side} A little jiggle while putting outward pressure, it should come off.
You can look at this thread for reference. It's for Taurus, but should be the same.
