Many cities are not happy with the growth of concealed carry laws, and have looked to the courts to help them fight allowing citizens to carry arms for defense. This is not just a problem in my home state of Ohio, but a national one. One group here in Ohio, Miami Valley Risk Management Association dealt with this topic in their latest news letter. They ignore the issue of the make up of the legislature in dealing with the law and instead look for change from the courts. If the courts fail them, they are looking to change the make up of those courts to favor them. Be aware that this under the radar method of eroding your rights may be well underway in your state. Get behind pro gun candidates now and protect your rights.;)

Maine had the good sense to pre-empt local gun laws across the board. Portland and its former Police Chef can wah-wah-wah all the way down Route 1.

And in other news:

"Citizens unhappy about cities leaving victims defenseless"

CCW is a done deal in Ohio.

Preemption has been upheld every time it's come up.

If Cleveland wants to pin a "kick me" sign to its crotch, that's just peachy with me.

Got a list?

IIRC, some city aldermen - like the most recent in St. Louis, recommend their constituents buy firearms. It was really a political ploy directed against their monolithic police department, but it made the papers.

Nonetheless, electing judges who lean one way or the other has been going on a long time. Grisham has even written a novel about it. The real problem is getting info on the candidates and researching who leans where.

More interest in judicial elections and appointments would be nice from the voting public.

Route 1 comes all the way down through Florida, which took the same step back in 1987. Even the city in which I live recently got its hand smacked when it tried enforcing a local ordinance that prohibited DC'ing a firearm within city limits. The court took the position that the 1987 law superseded any local laws. The city could, of course, invoke a "disturbing the peace" code in cases of unlawful discharge.
However, because airguns are not firearms, they are not included in the 1987 law, so the discharge of them can, and is, prohibited by local ordinance. Go figure.

The growth of people becoming permit holders should show cities that people actually WANT this!

I think that it's an abuse of public funding for cities to constantly fight against its own people.
