This is my first question here. I have never been able to find consistent info on Colorado gun laws, and ive had basically everybody i ask tell me different things.
Are assault rifles (my Ar-15) legal in Denver for home defense or at all?
If it is illegal to sell high cap mags in Denver why does Sports Authority Down Town sell 30rd ruger 10/22 mags?
Are my 30rd mags legal here? (for both my ruger and ar)

Sorry to unload like this, these are just questions that have been begging for a straightforward answer.
Thanks again all!

I've been reading the actual text of the law. The reason the 10/22 mags are legal is that the Denver ordinance doesn't apply to .22LR guns. Your 30 round mags are illegal. I'm still trying to get a definitive answer on an AR other than the Colt models mentioned by name in the text of the law. This is an absolute headache. I'm supposed to move down there in three days, and I need to weed out my collection so I don't go from being an upstanding, law abiding citizen with an officer's commission in the US Army to a scumbag criminal menace to society. I hate this.

The Denver AWB:

So then, since I am infact in posession of multiple 30rd mags how much trouble do I stand to be in? Ive tried to read through the laws but it too much political speak and language that makes the situation seem far more scary than it is.

Just don't move within the city limits of Denver and you are fine. Denver got around state law by a loophole that allows counties to determine their own gun laws. The city of Denver is like many other cities, anti legal gun ownership and LIBERAL.

One of the many reasons I hate Denver, and live in wonderful El Paso County. I almost never go to Denver, and flatly refuse to go to Boulder.

Fruederlocks,
First, I wouldn't admit to criminal activity here. Second, I'd get those mags out of the city as soon and quietly as possible. I'm not sure of the penalties, but IIRC it may be pretty serious (e.g. felony level).

IIRC I also think that certain class of weapons like ARs and AKs are prohibited.

Thanks, they no longer reside in Denver. The whole thing is strange to me because all of the aforementioned Items were purchased legally in Denver, which is the reason for my confusion, thanks again.

Your dilemma sir is exactly why I left that damn place in 2003. I was/am a law abiding citizen in COS, but if I got off the interstate to pee in Denver I was a felon and make no mistake, they'd of tanned my hide if I'd of ever been caught and they will tan your also.

That is just crap.

Indeed, I think its really weird that you can have the .22lr mags and the weapon (I have 10 mags for my ruger 10/22) and those don't appear to be illegal.
I carefully read through the link left by psyopspec, It basically says its a fine of $100-$1000 and up to 80 but no less than 8 days in jail for posessing an 'assault rifle' as described in their list. So I wonder if 22lr chambered ar15's are legal without 30rd mags?
This law kind of goes in circles methinks.

Well in addition to the fine you'd obviously lose your weapons.

I loved living in Denver, but if I were going to live there again I'd pick a 'free' suburb - Denver also has the silly no pitbull laws.
