Who should I ask* to get the official/legal answer to the following question -- or does anyone on THR have the definitive answer? (*e.g. Denver Police, District Attorney's office, CBI, TSA, etc?):

Does Denver's ban on the carrying & storage of "assualt weapons" (text below) include weapons contained within checked luggage at Denver International Airport? That is, could someone fly into Denver with their properly cased, unloaded (but prohibited in Denver) AR-15 type rifle as long as they were proceeding directly to another city in Colorado and did not stop in Denver proper?

11. Sec. 38-130, Assault Weapons

Prohibits the ownership, carrying, storage, display, sale of certain specified assault guns and their "knock-offs" except a very short-list of persons who grandfathered their guns in before the ordinance took effect.

Prohibits the possession of a magazine which holds 21 or more rounds
Denver Code, which was recently upheld in court, too :barf:

Thanks!

Don't do it.
Denver capriciously and arbitrarily enforces gun laws that aren't even written.
The Colorado Springs airport is a better choice.

Is the airport within the city limits? Is the airport manned with Denver PD or Denver Airport PD? Its quite a ride on their overpriced toll road. TSA can't answer as their jurisdiction is only the secure area. I would think the Firearms Owners Protection Act would cover the no stop journey you mention.
I like to fly into Colorado Springs (my final destination). If it concerns you that much fly direct to Colorado Springs and save that drive from Denver.

If at all possible ship the weapon ahead UPS to your destination..

huh?

There is a Toll road to DIA? Oddly enough, I have never seen a toll booth on Pena Blvd. If you are talking about C-470, then don't take it.

Thanks everyone for the replies. The Airport is owned and operated by the City of Denver. They annexed the land before building the new airport. It's patrolled by Denver PD. And Pena Blvd. isn't a toll-road...though with the number of speed traps (1 to 3 every time I've been on it), it might as well be. Drive safely.

If he doesn't like the idea of shipping it, I'll probably tell my friend with the AR-15 that Colorado Springs airport (COS) might be his best option -- especially if he can get a non-stop.
