Hi All,

i just purchased a new ORIGINAL ROM-AK from ClassicArms for $299, and i ask them it it was single or dougle stack, the lady told me it was a "the original dougle stack" and not the single stack modified.
they also come with the side mount plate

HI-CAP AK RIFLES.

is that good rifle for the money? pics

Pretty decent deal IMO, but any WASR is a single stack gun milled to accept standard capacity AK mags. That one apparently also lacks the threaded muzzle and bayonet mount, which is not really much of a minus IMO.

For $300 you got a functional AK with a rougher finish, as compared to a $500 AK. These are not collector AKs, they are shooter AKs. If thats what you expect, you will love it.

I have one, functions fine.....scratches in the finish and bland wood. I dont care, still works.

But she mis-informed (lied) to you. ALL WASRs are imported as single stack rifles. Century opens the mag well and replaces enough foreign parts with US parts to make them 922R compliant.

Why not spend $350 and get the Romanian G rifle built by Heavy Metal Guns for Classic Arms?

I have ordered a pair of those, they are not what they talk them up to be.....Im awaiting my return tags now.

Horrible rivet work, incorrect (and in my opinion unsafe) triggers, bad fit and finish and they both malfunctioned.

My original post on AKForum was lengthy but to cut it short.

AK 1 had a trigger so incorrectly installed it binded and caught on the receiver, had to take the top cover off to reset trigger a couple times.

AK 2 had 4 instance of hammer follow.

Both guns were put together with G2 single hook triggers, which the manufacturer of the receiver specifically recommends against as it could cause the problems Im having.

Rivets were mangled, bent - really bad looking.

Another poster also got a bad gun. Another got what he thinks was a good gun but also mentioned the rivets were mangled and one was cracked.

Buyer beware.

I'm SOOO happy with my Saiga.

Conveting it has been fun and it's at top quality AK.

$247 for the sporter rifle and if your thrifty and patient, you can pull the conversion off for another$150.

I also think the Saiga is a GREAT weapon. I have a 16" .223 and find it a very handy little rifle. I dont think the lack of pistol grip makes it less effective as a weapon and I have 8 "regular" AKs so Im not going to convert it.....but I did pickup a couple SureFire magazines in case I need the more capacity.

Do the Saigas take the standard AK mags for the 7.62x39 version? Do they take the same replacement internal parts?

I saw these at the last gun show and they were $219 - $280 depending on caliber. I was tempted but not sure of their compatibility.

No, they do not accept standard AK magazines. They can be converted to do so with a bullet guide, but then you are also "legally" required to make it 922r complaint to do so.

Im not sure if all the internal parts are different, but I do know the trigger group is somewhat different due to the position of the trigger, ie more rearward due to the sporter configuration.

Yeah, it is. Those are the parts you throw away during the conversion.

I could be wrong, but looking at that picture and the lack of dimples indicate that it is an originally low cap type.

I have a Warsar that I purchased from Classic. The one I have has a side folder and Gail type forend. I am not in love with the Tapco folder but it does work. I may replace it. I was out at the range today and the more I shoot this AK the more I like it. This rifle is more accurate Than my previous AK ( a poly tech sidefolder ) that I sold in a fit of stupidly. Classic Arms is a good company to deal with and I highly recommend them.
