So I had this dream last night .. a dream within a dream ..

An old friend is showing me his sidearm* and I run my thumb along the back of the slide and the thing falls apart in my hand ..

I wake up and get a phone call from the old friend who proceeds to tell me that while he was out shooting his sidearm* with his young son standing next to him on the firing line, the barrel ruptured and a piece of shrapnel struck his son in the left eye, permanently blinding him.

I wake up, for real this time, and felt compelled to encourage those who don't clean their weapons to consider, if for nothing else, the process of cleaning can be more than for the sake of clean. Inspection might uncover a potential safety issue .. a hairline crack along the chamber, a strange impression on the breech-face ..

Which reminds me, I need a new magnifying glass.

*Make and model redacted to protect the innocent :p

Sounds like you had the dreaded Jennings/Bryco/Lorcin dream!

Mine usualy starts with me being chased by a gang of bad guys. I reach for my High Power and pull from the holster, a Jennings! I turn to fire on my attackers and after the first shot, the gun breaks into pieces. I awake in a cold sweat as the thugs proceed to laugh at my gun and beat to death.

That's a good chance to remind everyone to wear eye protection at the range, even when they're not shooting.

Fortunately, I haven't had the Jennings dream yet. I hope I don't, as I'll probably have to re-inventory my guns in the middle of the night to make sure I don't have one.

good thing in the dream he didn't drop the gun in water, otherwise it might be considered a different type of dream.

Yeah.... sometimes it's ok to act like you're 12 again. :neener:

oh come on.... do I seriously have to spell it out?

Just think, "What is the most immature thing TheEconomist could have been referring to?"

;)

lol. It's just a play on words.

Not wanted to douse any fun here, but this is a good cautionary tale reminding us of the importance of eye protection. I had to read the story again to ensure that the permanent eye injury was part of the dream .

Eww Cooties!

Yep, missed that one .. Dirty old man! :neener:

Thought you were doing some Freudian geek-out and calling me a 12 year-old.
My bad :D

I felt kinda silly posting a dream .. defenses up and all that.

Oh, the pistol actually wasn't a Jennings, Bryco or Lorcin, t'was a Grock 20..so much for protecting the innocent..

I actually think they are pretty good, at least I think I think ..
Hmm...
