cleanest 9mm powder?

Vihtavouri N320 and Hodgdon Clays for target load range I have tested.

Are you looking to reload full-power or target loads?

For full-power loads, you would need to use powders with slower burn rate like Universal/Power Pistol/WSF/HS-6 etc.

Depends upon the loads you want to shoot. If your shooting light powder puff loads most powders will be dirty. Once you get above the med level most clean up. So in general, hotter the loads the cleaner the powder will burn.

Now if your shooting lead there is no such thing due to the wax bullet lube.

n320 for lighter loads used at the range and for minor PF competition

Leaves a "little" smokey residue when below 130PF. VERY clean above 130 PF
It just gets better after talking cleanliness: burns "cool", metering, temp sensitivity etc, etc, etc.
It is THE minor PF 9mm powder.
Your mileage won't vary. (YMWV):D

I switched from Winchester-231 to Viht. N-340 and I clean my guns about 1/3 as often. Usually, the brass comes out clean and shiny and I load it again without tumbling. Amazing powder and the time that I save cleaning guns more than makes up for added expense of using Viht.

I switched from Power Pistol because I was getting scorched brass and a huge flash. I have been using Ramshot Silhouette since. Overall, I'm happy with this one.

Good luck in your search.

cleanest 9mm powder?

Probably Solo 1000, but I've never tried it. Most fast-to-medium powders will burn clean if you load them up near max levels. (even Bullseye, which is the one I use for most 9mm loads)

Red Dot is worth a try for target loads. It has a reputation for being dirty, but that's in a 12 gauge.

Mostly shooting paper and local idpa matches
These are light loads. With 124gr bullets that is 1030-1045 FPS.
HS-6 and many powders mentioned won't run clean at light loads Even Win 231 runs VERY sooty at 128-130 PF (light loads).
Put 100+ rds through the pistol with these powders and the everything inside the pistol will be black with soot, including the feed ramp. Run 300 and it may fail to feed.

The cleanest I've seen is Ramshot Silhouette. It looks like Winclean, no kidding.

9MM Powder

I shoot 9MM & 45ACP & use Ramshot Silhoutte, Ramshot True Blue that are
clean burning with excellent results, works for me.

AA#7 has been very clean in my 357 mag, 9mm, 40S&W, 44 Special, and 45 acp loads.

Another vote for Hodgdon Clays.

918v,
What kind of 9mm load are you using with Silhouette?
Thanks!

I use 4.6 grains under a 147 JHP, 1.135" OAL. I'm still playing with it cuz the accuracy isn't up to my standards.

I'm running vit 3n37, and 320. I've never thought, wow, this stuff is super clean and well worth the extra money. (I bought it for a song off a guy getting out of reloading.)
