I use to own a Browning Gold Hunter 3" in 12 gauge. I recall having problems with the gun cycling. After I got rid of the gun, I figured out that the problem was that I had never cleaned factory packing grease off the recoil spring and holder. Maybe I did not read the manual as well as I should have, but at the time I did not know that this was required. I have read several articles on that process since I sold the gun.

Does the Browning Silver or Maxus require the same type of cleaning of the recoil spring as the Gold did? Do these guns use the same recoil spring system that the Gold did?

They are the very same action system, same design gas system, where the differ is the breech block.

Use CLP wiping off any excess, just a light coat. Also get yourself some Slip 2000 Choke and Piston cleaner, soak the piston overnight and rinse liberally with carbon cleaner to remove all carbon from the piston.
