Cleaning essentials for an AR15 type rifle

One thing that getting highlighted is different amounts of cleaning based on use of the rifle.

It it is stored a lot and not shot every week, or even once a month, clean it a lot and lube it. Humidity based corrosion from long term storage is the problem.

If it's shot once a month, clean it some. Boresnakes are ok, keeping the bolt tail clean, etc. Long term corrosion is caught early and a lot of it is blasted out. Keep it lubed.

If it's shot weekly, just wipe it down and lube it.

If it's shot daily in combat, clean and lube daily.

In all cases, don't stick anything into the muzzle, and don't use any tool that isn't hand operated, especially drill drivers.

Yes, I've done that. Armorer was impressed by how clean it was. That's not really a good recommendation.
