Any tips on cleaning the fluted chamber of an HK93? Will a regular AR15 chamber brush work well enough?

Also, why is the chamber fluted?

Lastly, I noticed that JLD sells an all peep drum for the rear sight. Is this part easy to replace?

Thanks

The HKs are delayed blowback a type of action where there is movement of the bolt head at the peak of the pressure. The flutes permit some of the gas to escape around the case preventing the case from gripping the chamber tightly.Without the flutes the heads of the cases would tend to tear off.

Another option that works well in my CETME is a NYLON .45acp brush. After brushing, I wrap a patch around it to collect the loosened gunk.

Just try a boresnake....usually though in most cases the flutes don't get too gummed up. I would also recommend good quality ammo. No russian stuff in that gun.

good luck.

I second the Hoppe BoreSnake.
Get one in 25-270 caliber and it will clean the chamber and bore of that .223 to look like new.

I have been using M-Pro 7 cleaner along with Bore Snakes for a couple of years now and the combination makes gun cleaning almost pleasant.
