I just picked up a .44 DE in Matte Chrome. It was sold as LNIB, however it looks like there is some discoloration on parts of the gun. This is my first gun with Chrome platting and was wondering if there is anything specific I should know about cleaning it? Anything to avoid, anything that works especially well?

Matte chrome has a surface finish that is a little rougher than polished chrome. Perhaps the difference in appearance you are seeing is a residual sheen of gun oil trapped in the more porous surface in the matte areas. Try using a clean patch and alcohol to wipe the entire area down and see if that changes the appearance. If that is the case, when you wipe the gun down with gun oil, be sure all surfaces get an even coat to make it look like you want it to.

Believe it or not you can use a piece of Aluminum foil and plain water to clean off the chrome without doing damage. Crumble up the foil, wet it and use it like a piece of steel wool. It' will work...
