Unsafe: Most polishes and lead-away cloths. They will take the blue off with some rubbing and right away, respectively. Also: cola and blood can strip blue faster than anything.

Best to pick a single product like CLP or FP-10 and not only use it to clean but to coat everytime you handle the gun. I don't know how the matte blue holds up vs the polished blue, but in general even fingerprints can eat away rust spots on a blue gun in certain climates - and at scary-fast speeds. Keep a oily rag around, give it a few drops when it dries out, and wipe that gun every time you handle it.

Oh, and post some photos.

I use just CLP on my 520 and it does a reasonable job of cleaning and it's not harsh. Give it a good wipe down after you handle especially if you are sweaty. No need to soak it, just a light coating will do.

How do you like your 520? I really like mine. I thought the recoil might be an issue with it, but it's fine for me. I got a little shy about light weight S&W's after buying and shooting a 357PD. I love the 357PD but it definitely not something I would use as a plinker. I've actually put it down and picked up my 460 because it was less painful to shoot.:what:

I lilke it alot...its my first S&W actually, its my first revolver. Im not from the old school at all (still in my 20's), but for some reason I think I may ony get 2 more autos..a GLOCK 20 and a 1911. After that I think all my handguns will be revolvers.
