I recently purchased a Hornady LNL kit and cleaned the powder dispenser as instructed. Now I am getting powder stuck all over the inside and it is throwing charges that are varying by .3 to .4 grains. I have tried three different powders so far, Titegroup, Red Dot, and Unique. Same results with all of them. If it matters at all I am reloading for .45 Auto. What can I do to correct this problem? Can I use a brake cleaner to degrease the inside and what to prevent static buildup? Thanks in advance for any help.

Next time you are in a computer store, you may be able to still find the old anti-static cloth that was used on the tube type screens. Now that everone uses flat pannel screens, I would guess anti-static cloths are harder to find. They work just as well on plastic as they do on glass.

Rub the inside of the cleaned powder measure with a sheet of Bounce, this will remove all the static. Another great use for Bounce is in the tumbler it will pick up all the crud and keep the media cleaner.

Wipe with a rag dampened with dish soap solution and rewipe when dry with a Bounce sheet if powder still clings. Running a lb of powder through it a time or two will coat things with graphite and aid in fighting static also.

Don't use the brake parts cleaner. It will cause the plastic to melt some. I did this and clouded the powder dispenser. Thankfully, RCBS has a great warranty.

Good deal. Got it cleaned with no obvious damage done. In the morning I will see if I can get consistant charges out of it. Thank you all very much for the advice. I was pretty close to ruining it with the brake cleaner. So again, thanks.

What did you end up cleaning it with? I ended up using brake cleaner (with the whole thing dissassembled) as the manual mentioned (it did make the paint a little sticky, but one-shot did too for that matter, I just tried to keep it off the paint) either using that or one-shot to clean the shipping oil off the metal parts.... if you can remove your plastic hopper (the one on mine would NOT come loose), wash it in dawn dishwashing detergent and water, and air dry. Rub the inside of the plastic hopper with a dryer sheet... then run some powdered graphite thru the measure, and use it to lube the measure when you put it back together. After doing all that, I get consistent charges within .1 or .2 of a grain with a variety of powders... works great now. Hornady really should ease up on how much oil they drench these things in before they ship them..
