I have been given a lot of GI web slings. all new orginial from the 1950. however for some reason these were packed in cosmoline before storage.
how can I get the cosmoline off and out of the webbing?

all suggestions welcomed

thank you for your time------

Soak them in a pan of kerosene or lamp oil for an hour or so.
Hand wash in warm soapy water.
Safer than gasoline.

If you have a do it yourself car wash nearby that offers a steam clean sprayer, that will work fairly well too. HTH

Boil them in a large pot of water is probly the best way to get the cosmo out (it will liquify and float to the top) and not risk damaging or discoloring the sling. That would be the way I'd go.Lots of stuff will dissovle cosmoline, but I'd test some out on a small spot on a sling first to make sure it didnt bleach or discolor the sling, or eat it up, make it brittle, or something like that.water is probly safest in all regards, and cheapest.
